The only one of them all who seemed to have an ounce of intelligence was Jack.
The majority of them not being able to do simple arithmetic and spellings is quite worrying.

I'm afraid it's the same every year and it looks like this is the shameful, appalling standard of education now in our schools .

They should go back to the basics of how to teach maths and teach 'times tables' in school . I was shocked to see how they were arriving at the multiplication answer, making it far more difficult then it should be .

Thank goodness I was thought my 'times tables' which enables anyone to arrive at an answer to any basic maths question instantly .

Must admit tonight was the first night I've questioned myself as to why I'm watching. .I've watched from the first episode with Craig Mel and nasty nick..been to eviction nights (a long drive as I'm in Lancashire) and been a huge fan throughout. .but since jade came on with the thick being cool attitude the hm have gone downhill. ..tonight showed just how dim they are. .I watch bb for what it is..but are there any intelligent hm this year?

I thought in the VTs at least a couple of the lasses were supposedly training in law, and rapper fella with the burberry over-the-shoulder sweater was studying to be a doctor at 'the fourth best university in the world'* so at least if his msuic career didn't take off he could fall back on being a 'surgeon or something'

* UCL apparently!

Not trying to defend but surely the adrenaline of being shot at and in pain would effect some sort of mental working out?

Think they just read what they need to and remember to pass exams. .but have zero common sense or interest in general knowledge. .it was embarrassing.

The maths task was shocking, you'd expect primary school kids to be able to answer those questions.

Anyone who has taught in the last few decades will tell you that as well as a percentage who struggle an even bigger one pays no attention. Blame the system if you must. And it seems some must. Every flaming year.

What else is their to blame? Kids need to be engaged. It's the systems job to engage them and help, them learn. What else are they at school for? Free child care?

Even Eileen had to count on her fingers. I know it's been a long time since she was at school, I think Jesus was still a boy, but surely she knows her 6 times tables.

Yes, I 'tried it' for 26 years.
One of my tasks was to correct teachers' mistakes on their annual reports.
They were unbelievable and no, not all of them were made by NQTs.
If a kid is told something by a teacher, they're likely to take it as gospel.

You have spellcheck on computers and predictive testing on phones. In exams in schools you do not get marked down for spelling mistakes....and they wonder why kids can't spell. Because they don't need to!

My favorite bit was when Kieran very confidently answered '6' to the question 'what us 12/4'.

Eileen didn't have a 6 times one; she had 5 x 3.

Anyway, I think hers was a good method. You want 5 x 3. (Ok, maybe you'd just say 15, but suppose you were unsure or didn't remember.) The paint balls will be distracting, so you don't want to keep a running total, unassisted, in memory. But you have 5 fingers on a hand, making it easy to keep track if you use them Then you just need to count by 3s, moving to a new finger each time And she could count by 3s.

I don't think the times table has been taught in schools for a long time . That's why most haven't a clue how to multiply . We did our times tables and it sticks with you for the rest of your life and makes doing basic maths so easy .

Lets face it learning requires effort, to get stuff into the brain so it remains there . It seems the whole ethos today is not to tax the little darlings with any learning effort as it may put them off .
