Harriet and Sarah have had a conversation about benefits, racism and sexuality

On tonight’s episode of Big Brother, Harriet and Sarah sit together and discuss the benefits system, racism and sexuality.

Harriet starts by talking to Sarah about her nicknames as a “working class bird”. Sarah tells Harriet that she isn’t a big fan of “common people”. Harriet then asks what Sarah means by “common people” and Sarah explains

“Lairy…watching TV…up to date on Jeremy Kyle”. Harriet says she knows those people.

“I think I’ve signed on once in my life…I signed on once and never went back”. replies Harriet. Sarah then goes on to say “The system has been rinsed to death…It’s not for immigrants to come in and claim shit when not they’re even attempting to get a job…I hate racism…I can understand why people may have a different view on gay people or certain sexual orientations…for religious reasons”.

Harriet responds by saying “It’s not affecting me, do what you have got to do”

Big Brother continues tonight at 9;20pm.

Not going to paint Sarah very well tonight.

"I can understand why people may have a different view on gay people or certain sexual orientations…for religious reasons"

Oh dear. I get her point but this is not going to come across well. She needs to articulate herself better. She's condemning racism one minute but then she says she can understand why some people are homophobic.

Let's see how it translates on screen though.

Note to housemates:

Do not discuss politics or religion on BB.

Just talk about shagging.

Sarah is entitled to her opinions...from that transcript she didn't appear to say anything bad.

Sarah trying too hard to be controversial with comments like that,if only she could stand by it,instead of backtracking

It’s not for immigrants to come in and claim shit when not they’re even attempting to get a job. That part is true.

But its also not there for any one to abuse immigrants or not. The benefit system is for those who genuinely need it. Nothing more nothing less than that.

IF Sarah gets enough noms to be up for eviction then I can guarantee this chat will be discussed on Monday night's SOTS

A cynical viewer might conceive that she's attempting to appeal to a certain demographic.

BTW, is Harriet going to continue with this "im a working class bird" routine throughout the series, because if she is im going to start to hate her soon.

Shes appealing to the "down to earth HM" lovers out there.

I think if she said the opposite, and said she could understand racism but not homophobia there would be a very different reaction.

Agreed.

She never suggested that she agrees with either homophobia or racism.

The most controversial thing in that discussion (for me at least) was that Harriet at every given opportunity is going to play the "im a working class down to earth gal" card.

Yep. And if some one has worked loads and hard for there pots of money. Then good on them. I certainly wouldn't be spending my pots of money on some one who goes on about wanting money money the way she has.

Indeed homophobia is considered a lesser prejudice to many people sadly. Not that i am saying Sarah was being homophobic before any angry fans say anything.

It's tedious isn't it? I was saying last night she is desperate for us all to see her as the normal one, so transparent with her act.

Given she's a young single mum and a student, I wonder how much she's actually paid into the system herself?

You have to wonder how she can afford to fund her way through a Law degree and look after a kid, too. Presumably she has a lucrative part-time job to pay for her private nanny, tuition fees, designer clothes, bills etc.

What kind of response is that?

As for her mentioning working class 'I'm normal me' she was already tiresome and we are probably stuck with this for weeks

To be honest her answer could have been worse considering her political sympathies.

I don't know of course but I highly suspect she's on some sort of benefits! At the least she will get child benefit. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that if she is but to try and brand people coming to this country to work as scrounges is a bit cheeky when she's most likely on benefits and uses men for money. Her attitude is disgusting, I hate people like her

Same here. It's the self-righteousness and hypocrisy that grates.
