You're taking it far too seriously. Anyone with enough talent to win could do so without the golden buzzer. It's just a gimmick. In a way, David is the only one putting his to good use as all of the other golden buzzer acts would make it to the live shows without it.

I think that's rather missing the point of the act.

Essentially she's a comedy act with songs rather than a singer. Yes the songs are a large part of the act but the act is more than that.

She's done the cabaret spot at Duckie many times over the years which is where I've seen her before. The full act is charming, eccentric and funny. Obviously it's not to everyone's taste but it's clear from the responses on here that a lot of people found her entertaining.

And as many people have said, having her in the semi finals makes a refreshing change from the usual choirs and dance troupes.

If a song about baking crumble is supposed to be 'comedy', then she really needs to rethink her comedy material. There are far better comedy acts out there; if you want real comedy music, then listen to Weird Al Yankovic. He is far funnier than her; his act actually features hilarious observations as opposed to 'Ooh, I love baking Crumble'. Plus you would actually listen to him on a iPod.

And I don't see how her act IS more than singing a bad comedy song. She came on and sung. That's it. There was nothing more to her act.

Again, perhaps I should go on BGT and sing about how much I love pizza. It seems clear from the reactions on here that everybody would love me despite it not being a talent.

He's had a long and successful musical career for many decades from his style too, in comedy clubs, theatre venues, radio shows and even a series or two on television. So there is a market for it.
Granted, the style isn't everyone's cup of tea but is still takes talent to come up with this sort of act and anyone that says 'there's no talent' then they're being very naive. Comedy comes in all forms, some people 'get' oddball, surreal comedy, some don't. It's having the ability to 'tune-in' to it and enjoy the ride.
As for listening to songs of a certain type or genre via person stereo devices been restricted? Bizarre. I use my iPod for all manner of audio from contemporary pop, classical music, radio comedies and drama.

What was even more funny was watching the expression on Simon's face throughout the act.

Comedy is a very subjective thing. I find Lorraine Bowen funny and entertaining but clearly you don't - neither of us is wrong as it's our own opinion.

I have heard some Weird Al Yankovic and I don't find his style funny at all - but that's just me.

Yes on BGT she came on and sang a song but her full act (although song based) is more than that. I actually don't think BGT is necessarily the best forum for her style of performance but clearly she thought it was worth a go and it has certainly raised her profile so it seems to have paid off.

And to be honest if your opinion of the quality of a song is based on whether it sounds good on an iPod then I really don't think we're going to agree.

I agree with you about all your points. I think most people just want the same vanilla nonsense every year. Little dancing kids, sob story teens on their "last chance" and dance troupes.

Oh, and not forgetting the boy bands singing the same tired old songs again and again.

Not true. My favourite acts are the ones that are different. UDI are by far the best this year. Just because some of us don't like a shitty act doesn't mean we just want to see the same stuff.

Not trying to be rude or anything, but the BIB is a tad rich coming from the person who was raving over the pile of tripe that was Princess the Hypnodog.

He's completely tuned to the mainstream and has a nose for what can make him money. If anything's a bit off-the-wall he simply can't understand it. Then he goes into a near-panic and hits his buzzer.

the purpose of BGT is to find an unusual act to appear on the Royal Variety perfomance. This act was different and people liked it and thats all that is important.

It's awful that this act has been put through to the live finals and so many others with talent have gone.
I get that we need some fun acts to go through but this, no way.

For me, i'd say it's not quite that. Judging by the plethora of threads and posts every year complaining about "scripting", the judges, the "sob stories" and everything else, i'd say the type of show that most people seem to want would be quite different.

It would be about 45 minutes long, have zero backstage elements, zero interaction with the judges beforehand and would just be a succession of acts coming out on stage and performing. They'd get a short, relevant critique from each judge before the decision and then move on to the next one.

Lorraine has just been on "Lorraine". She came across as quite quiet and shy actually.

She has toured with Billy Bragg in the past. He spotted her at the Hackney Empire and asked her to audition for him when his pianist fell pregnant.

She also said that she loves creating "earworms" - silly tunes that get stuck in your head which you just keep singing even when you want to listen to something else.

She said she just wants to get her music out there and would love to do an advert or even a film in the future.

Just to add to the "corny" factor, Nadia Swahala whipped her up...yep, you guessed it, apple crumble!

This is definitely true.

I know this because my distant relative was part of a "Diversity-style" dance act who auditioned, years before the afore-mentioned were ever heard of. In the first round, they danced for producers only and made it through to the following round. This panel consisted of more producers and Amanda Holden. Unfortunately, the group did not make it any further than that.

You now know that all the judges faked surprised faces when a group of octagenarian dancing grannies and the like come on is just that...fake. At least one of them has seen the act before and, if not, they will probably have been briefed by producers.

I often wonder how genuine the Susan Boyle scenario was....
