As my local o2 shop weren't much help, i have been doing some quick googling.
If i put a EE4g card in my moto g it works on 4g. (picked it up from local shop)
When i put a o2 4g card in it doesnt work on 4g.
O2 shop says my area has coverage for 4g

Seems its a frequency thing?
http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/
seems o2 works on 800 but phone works on 850?

So for 4g seems i need to switch to EE?
Thought as o2 were now giving me 4g
http://www.o2.co.uk/help/pay-and-go/big-bundles i could use it

What model number is it? It's possible that you have a regional varient that doesn't pick up o2's band (20) but will pick up EE's band (3).

Bought from tesco (uk) sim free at xmas,
it says XT1039 ON THE BOX.
Dam confusing all these different bands

works fine on 3g o2, and sim card says its 4g compatible.

I have looked up the specs on your phone and it does work with 800 band on 4G. I do not have this phone but when I first got my 4G phone the 4G was not activated by Tesco Mobile until I purchased a Data addon. Once this was done it was activated. Hopes this helps. This phone definitely supports the 4G frequencies that O2 use.

The coverage checker may be wrong so can I suggest taking it to a town or city that you know has O2 from 4G? That would confirm if the phone is at fault or not.

HI thanks for that, but it works on 4g with a EE card in and its sim free so dont think i need a tesco addon.
So seems i will have to move to ee for 4g.

Not all Tesco Mobile price plans have 4G included, some of the cheaper ones are 3G only. You might want to check that your plan actually has 4G included before deciding to move.

I know the Moto supports 4G on tesco as I had one and 4G on tesco worked fine,, which uses o2's network so stands to reason O2 4G works fine on this phone.

As above really I'd checked with your provider that your tariff has 4G as not all do. Some are limited to 3G, so maybe the tariff you are on doesn't include 4G, but since most offer 4G now as standard it shouldn't cost you anything extra to add it..

If it's an older plan you won't have 4G. You'll need to upgrade to get it.

As per everyone else, with Tesco Mobile I had to first upgrade the SIM from a 2G mini SIM to a 4G micro SIM then I had to call CS to get 4G activated on the account as it is on the old PAYG lite tariff.
