Lycamobile grrrr
For several years I've been using Lycamobile to make calls to relatives in Ukraine, the cost was 15p a minute to mobiles, I've just made a 44 minute call to Ukraine and was shocked to see when I checked it had cost £11 instead of around £7. I checked on the Lycamobile website and saw they have raised the cost of calling Ukraine mobiles to 25p a minute!
![]() People who call some Asian countries can do so for 1p a minute, while it costs me 25 times more to phone a country in Europe! I spend £50 -60 a month with Lycamobile, yet get no reward, I'll definitely be looking for an alternative now, I've never rated them that highly. It's good for those who are phoning countries which have an high immigrant population here, but for those who aren't it's a rip off.

Are you mad because you didn't check their tariff or the fact someone can ring Asian countries for much less
I can see an option on Lycamobile for monthly value pack that gives 250 mins to Ukraine for £25 is that an option for the future , this equates to about 12.5 p min |

Rates change all the time, with the trouble over there I am surprised it doesn't cost more.
Anyway if the OP is happy with the coverage as Lyca use the 02 network, I suggest the OP takes a look at the 02 International PAYG SIM, current rates to the Ukraine are 8p land line and 15p mobile per minute and 14p per text and they do bother to text you when the rates change. Also can usually take advantage of the cheap PAYG upgrade deals at CPW after the SIM has been active over 6 months. |

I gather the OP is mad because they increased the price by 67% without notification.

Wife calls her parents at home in Ukraine using the dial-a-code app. Make the call from the app And it deducts from your balance if payg or charges you the advertised rate if on contract.
Never had any issues with the app and the Mrs calls home daily |

I'm aware of the 250 minutes, but you can only use it once a month, it would only last me about 2 weeks. |

No local cost if using wifi. Skype pay and go 7.6 landlines, 15.3 mobiles |

An update to this, I decided on Lebara who are still charging 15p a minute to Ukraine.
While I was waiting for my Lebara sim to arrive though I used giffgaff, which I use on another phone for domestic calls and internet, they also charge 15p for calls to Ukraine and there was quite a difference in quality between them and Lycamobile, despite them both using 02, very clear with no interference and no cut offs, unlike Lycamobile which usually has lots of interference and quite often cuts off every few minutes, also unlike Lycamobile, giffgaff sent me a text informing calls to Ukraine with them will be rising to 17p a minute on 10th June, that as a result of me making just one call to Ukraine, I received nothing from Lycamobile informing me of their rise, despite me using them to call Ukraine for several years. I was far more impressed with giffgaff than Lycamobile. I received my Lebara sim and tried them, they were also clear, with a bit of interference, but not as much as Lyca, they use Vodaphone. The reason I am staying with Lebara and not giffgaff is because they give £5 extra credit if you top up by £20 and also offer 250 minutes a month to Ukraine for £20, just like Lyca. |

Do you have a landline? If so then you can call Ukraine mobiles for as little as 7.15ppm.
http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert...mobile/bt/easy Failing that what phone do you have? Some Android phones have built in SIP/VOIP functionality, which means as long as you have an internet connection (wifi or network) you can call Ukraine for even cheaper at 5.4ppm. This is with Sipgate, they do have an app I believe which you can just install on your phone. If your landline is with another company other than BT go here: http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert...ntcallchecker/ |
