first of all, as a viewer, i would've loved it if the recorded nominations got changed at last minute because nick would add his votes (perhaps changing, perhaps not the composition of the final set of nominees) live, thus making it more interesting to us.

second, by going first, his votes make it easy for people to take the 'easy way out' and start ganging on the first nominees.

I like the idea, just can't deal with the way it was executed.

That really is a much more interesting way of doing it. It could make for very exciting television with viewers hoping that certain housemates are either removed or added to the mix as it stands before Nick nominates.

Unfortunately the words 'interesting' or 'creative' aren't in the programme makers' vocabulary.

I agree that making him go first was a really poor idea. I'm not sure I understand the first part of your post though.

Everyone records their noms and we get to know who's up. THEN we get to see Nick's noms live and see if it changes anything with who's up?

I do think Nick's nominating before the others was a one-off, it has been suggested that the second time-bomb on Friday (Nick making face to face nominations) was only televised as a filler a result of Jack not taking the car and leaving the house, if Jack had done this the rest of Friday's show would have been taken up with his exit. Obviously that's all up to debate but I don' think we will be seeing Nick nominate first again: unless you know better

They made a big mistake on Friday, they didn't ask Jack if he wanted to use his immunity before Nick's noms, Yes we all know Nick would not have nominated Jack but the point is Jack can only use an immunity before any noms. are made, you can't be immune after you receive something.

I am a brazilian, in brazil, and I just love BBUK so much, and even with all the modifications it has gone through as it chugged along in time, it still is not only my favourite version of bb around the world but also one of my favourite tv shows. period.

I've been enjoying this season quite a lot, as I think that power trip really did the franchise some damage. It's clear (so far) to me that producers are aware of a few things that went wrong last time and are trying to do things differently.

one of the changes I really liked was the ''no eviction on week 1'' as we got the chance to see them interact more, and for a bit more time. granted, there was the simon eviction, but it was a game move, and we didn't really have the time to bond with/hate him. as it was a free vote, i expect simon to have the opportunity to return to the house, as it would not ruffle any voters' feathers and would go along with the ''game show'' aspect that Channel 5 seems to privilege. Also, the possible Jack exit from the house would be an element of this ''game show'' mentality, and wouldn't be accounted for by any internal votes.

so, when nick's vote inaugurates the voting process, we're guaranteed at least 2 weeks with these people in the house, which I think is better, for it allows the viewers to judge HM's more fully.

I don't think the other housemates will be able to vote for the ones Nick's nominated. His nominations will definitely face the public vote, together with whoever else the housemates nominate. Unless I've got it terribly wrong...

I think the concept of 'fair' was dumped by BB long ago.

I think the word 'fair' is a bit loaded because it's opposite implies actions done on purpose to make one win, which I believe was not the case.

I think that as BB evolved, it has taken more and more elements of game-shows, such as lucky prizes/punishments, and competitions for rewards. In that sense, one could argue that being so far away from the original idea of the programme, these elements would be unfair. On the other hand, timebomb 1 was purely a luck game, and timebomb2 (in my opinion) was a perfectly acceptable machination in the game because it involved decision-making (and game-playing) from Jack. In that sense, I don't see it as unfair, just part of the game.

What I think is unfair (and from reading so much here, I'd risk saying many also do) are the edits, which build really contrived narratives, forcing the cuts and paste to an extreme, conveniently leaving things out or juxtaposing things intentionally. I can't really say this has been the case so far, but Power Trip certainly had its excess of it.

Originally the concept was that BB provided the viewers with contestants who all began on a level playing field and the viewers were able to decide who stayed and who went. Which I suppose set the bar as far as 'fairness' went. But BB has, as you say, 'evolved' (deteriorated?) more and more into game show territory where 'virtue is no longer its own reward'. I agree that editing can be carried to extremes, but of course an edit will never be 'fair', since by its nature it changes reality. What I think is most unfair is the way producers choose contestants in a defined age range (apart from the odd token like Showbiz and Eileen, and they are hardly representative). But then I would, wouldn't I, being an older viewer.

I also believe that in terms of age, Channel 5 has been quite biased towards dem young'uns (sic) in the ''civilian'' bb. In Celebrity, age has been much better distributed.

That said, imho, they've chosen a varied group in terms of class, and political-views. It also seems that, unlike Power Trip, they've made it a point to put more Beta characters. I got really, really tired of bbuk15 quite quickly due to the never-ending arguments and constant one-upping going on at all times.

Yes, I agree about the putting in of more Beta characters. Quieter, more thoughtful people bring a more interesting element to the show. But what I do miss is, quite simply, wit. We get wit on Celeb BB. Why is it such a no-no on civilian BB? These people take themselves so seriously! As I've mentioned on another thread, I've been an avid watcher of BB since the first series, but this year I've just...stopped. I'm following it here on the forums rather than actually sitting down and watching it onscreen. Can't quite believe it, but I just can't summon up the interest.
