I'm on a two year business contract with EE, started in September 2013.

I'm on the inclusive roaming package, EU/EEA/USA/OZ/Russia

I phoned the business customer care line this week (I don't think it actually connects you
to anybody different to the general public line) asking when I could have an upgrade,
Mid June (45 days before the contract expires) was the answer

I asked whether I could upgrade the phone, but remain on the now defunct package (as there is no equivalent available, only EU/EEA), the operator said I could, I'd simply have to pay more upfront for the new phone.

Is that really true, or had she (or me) got the wrong end of the stick ?

It is true and definitely possible.
What you don't want them to do is just think 'same tariff' = 'same amount of data' though. Make sure the advisor you speak to next time also understands it!

Ta !!

What does 'IDD' mean in the context of its use in this document at the bottom of Page 4

Does it mean, inclusive calls between the countries listed ? For instance if I'm in Germany, I can call France. That's part of the roaming deal I currently have, but it's far from clear whether that's part of the new deal ? As it is, it appears to be capped at 180 mins/mth while presently there's no cap.

International Direct Dialling?

It would seem to be that it lumps that together with roaming in the tables above, so yes, I'd assume that to mean that between the two, it would include calls between two overseas countries, without the call going back to a UK 'base' for billing purposes. Its not entirely clear though.
