I wouldn't take this offer even if they were giving it away

And 50 minutes a month is pathetic. I don't use masses of minutes but I would still want at least four times that amount.....

I don't really get why EE offers limited numbers of SIMs with huge allowances on them for a month or two, but won't really beef up their actual plans.

I can't see it bringing in huge numbers of people if you're being told to go from £10 for 100GB to £20 for 5GB

If it's an add on to a £10 data package it will be single speed only won't it? Still faster than Three's 4g though.

These promotions are all about data though with EE. Anybody who writes a complaint on their Social Network will usually get a canned response along the lines of "Oh but we still have the fastest 4G network in the UK", often regardless of the subject of the complaint!.

I think these promotions are all about showing off how quick their 4G network is.

I hope they have enough capacity there this year in that case!

Just tried texting 100GB to 150 on my normal PAYG SIM just out of curiosity. It replies "Sorry this promotion is only available to customers on certain price plans". Does this mean certain PAYG SIMs or does it mean if you're on a £10 Data Package?

When you order one, you get told that you must activate within 14 days of receiving the SIM. I have no idea if that's enforced, but at the very least it could mean that you only have a limited time to do so once the offer ends (May 31st) so anyone planning to stock up could be disappointed, as I assume that by the end of June the text to activate the 100GB of data will come back with an error.

This time around you definitely do need a £10 top up and the wording in the email you get when the SIM is sent isn't totally clear as to whether you need a further top-up to actually continue using the data into the second month.

Mind you, even if you DID have to pay £20, that's still not bad for 100GB.. and the SIM will work just fine in a tablet, dongle or Mi-Fi.

Once again though, this is just another odd marketing move for EE. Is it once again checking to see how many people use more data than currently offered, with a view to offering tariffs with higher allowances?

What's the harm in just introducing some MBB tariffs that offer 50, 100, 150, 200GB of data? Each with fairly reasonable run-on charges/add-ons to add more?

Is EE interested in mobile broadband? The EE Home scheme hasn't really expanded much (and tops out at 50GB I think?) so I guess EE doesn't want to get into this market, and perhaps BT doesn't either - preferring people use fixed broadband wherever possible, which is cheaper to keep going to meet demand.

In Sweden, you can get mobile broadband tariffs from most of the networks that offer 200GB or more per month. It's a viable alternative to fixed broadband. It's not mega cheap (but nor is it mega money) but clearly offers many people a faster connection than they might otherwise get, which people are willing to pay more for.

I'd pay for 150-200GB, as I could ditch my TalkTalk TV ADSL connection (5-6Mbps, no FTTC available and no cable) which would save me £40-50 a month. That could then go towards mobile broadband, which could get me speeds of 80-100Mbps!

I can't be the only one who would be willing to pay £50+ a month for mobile broadband, can I? And EE keep teasing people with these limited deals, with no follow up to actually take my money!

I'd guess that they worry about potential network congestion and people moaning because they can't do 100Mbit on a speedtest.

I do wish price/value was a lot better though. Oh, and having a real IP address. So far it looks like 3 is the only network that offers this, unless you're a big business and can demand it (with a fee to match)

Fair point. Using the Swedish skills that I picked up for business once I had a quick look on Tre Se (800/2600 rollout I think) 200gb for £70 a month, 60gb for £40 a month.

On Tele2 which has a pretty extensive 4g (99% population according to the website) rollout done like MBNL (Net4Mobility) with Telenor 100gb is £30 a month.

This rollout must have cost a fair bit as well considering how big a country Sweden is but I wonder if these are the prices we'll be seeing eventually.

Just looking at Tele2's website now I quite like the way they do the contracts for SIM only and phones. You choose if you want inclusive minutes, texts and SMS for £11 a month (or 5p a minute/text) but then you can add data separately with 20GB being £11 on top of that as well or 50gb being £20.

Getting a solid speed of around 50 mbps Download, and 10 mbps Up on Tesco mobile here (running on O2 network). No 4G EE here.

You're one of the lucky few who can actually get a 4G signal. Travel a bit (outside of the town or city you are likely in) and see how it goes then - it's struggle to get a 3G signal, let alone good speeds while actually on 3G.

I'm pretty sure I'd have to go 100+ miles to get an O2 4G signal and I'm hardly in the middle of nowhere

I can get 4G at home on O2, and it's not too bad (20-25Mbps on a good day), but I have to force my phone to LTE only as it only takes a blink of an eye for the phone to drop to 3G or 2G and then stay there until I reboot, or toggle flight mode.

It's a pathetic network setup, as I can say that once it drops 4G that's it. It absolutely WILL NOT ever return to 4G without user intervention. What good is that? I still have 4G, but it's now on 2G and GPRS with 1000+ms ping times and speeds of 0.01Mbps (Speedtest will even report 0.00Mbps sometimes).

If you're consuming data, EE and Three will of course stick on 3G once falling back, but once there's a break it will go back to 4G. O2 doesn't do that, and I'm really unsure why. Force the phone to LTE only at the expense of voice calling and it's all quite decent.

Sadly until VoLTE comes, O2 users can't realistically do that.

There are another couple of towns (about 15 - 20 miles out), that also have 4G with O2 (think they 4G with EE as well). It's not everywhere in my town though.

Well, EE seems to have this big Ego-Marketing thing about being the "Fastest most reliable network" so in order to preserve that, I can't personally see them introducing any larger mainstream Data allowances anytime soon, as I can't imagine that they'll want to jeopardise that selling point. Let's face it, they ended their double Data promotion back in February, putting the 10GB / £27.99 back to its original 5GB / £27.99 and I can't dress that up as being anything but a step backwards, for anybody frantically clutching straws in the hope that EE are going to start offering huge amounts of Data at the prices offered to Swedish Customers by their networks. 100GB for £30 from EE?, we can't even get 10GB for that price on EE SIMO, at the moment £30 will get you 5GB of data and bit of change if you choose SIMO from EE

10GB in real terms isn't an awful lot of Data, certainly not compared to the example set by the Swedish network(s) discussed above, however EE seem unable / unwilling to even routinely offer the 10GB allowance as a set tariff on SIMO, preferring to limit it to what, so far, seems to have been a limited duration, one off promotion.

These 100GB / Month Promotions, however welcome, are just a marketing exercise again promoting their speed and network presence. There is little risk, as even if a small percentage of people hammer them, should any slow down's occur as a result, in a few months time, the offer ends, and so does any temporary 'local' congestion.

I don't understand this thread at all. I have a spare phone on EE PAYG and at the rate per minute being charged, a £10 top-up would only give me a few short calls. I keep it for emergencies and hardly dare use it for casual phone calls.
