No but you have to wait to for the second month for the next 100GB of free data to become active as I understand it.

Not according to the questions on EE's facebook page, answered by Staff under this promotion - No, you only top up the sim with £10 once.

The £10 which you paid originally, gets you the 1GB that the £10 add on bought you, plus the "Free" 100GB per month for Two consecutive months. So in total you get 101GB for the first month, then another 100GB is added 30 days later. The next / final 100GB doesn't renew until the clock reaches 00:00:00 regardless of whether you exhaust the data before then.

http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status - will tell you how long you have left and how much data is remaining

Even if you use the full 101GB well before the 30 day period is up, you still have to wait until the 30 days expire before you get the next 100GB added you can't just add it at will nor will it become active automatically as a result of using up all of the first lot of data, so pace yourself

It's funny that staff tell people to pace themselves, when surely EE believes nobody needs anywhere near that much data - or else it would offer tariffs like these on more than an occasional promotional basis?

I imagine that with the growth in popularity of Wifi based apps that reliance on mobile data will become less and less. In addition to the already available Apps, aren't the networks themselves introducing ways to encourage their customers to use Wifi on a more regular basis?, not only for data but increasingly for calls and texts too!.

So eventually, more and more people will be using / connected to a wifi network for large chunks of the time, rather than a mast. A clever strategy, as its a win-win situation for them.

In relation to the 100GB promotion, I wonder if anybody has actually changed their pattern to use Wifi less and connect continuously to 3G / 4G since they got this Sim. I wouldn't be surprised if many were still connecting to their work / home wifi as before, despite having 100GB 'on tap'

I can see why networks want to shift usage onto Wi-Fi, but with only a few exceptions, Wi-Fi is usually a right PITA when out. Not only is my data speed usually far slower, but you get all the other issues associated with channel congestion, issues with the access points handling lots of users, issues when handing off from one AP to another - and so on.

Wi-Fi at home or work is fine, and I find it's usually great on the London Underground (and fast too) but cafes, hotels, shopping centres... nearly always crap unless you don't move and the service isn't being used by lots of people.

I topped up then texted 100GB to 150 and got it, I didn't buy the add on and I still have the £10 credit which I assume will not expire as I've not bought any 30 day add on?

You'll need to cancel the auto top up or once you use your 50MB free data I expect the £10 add on to be added automatically.

Slightly off topic. On my s5 theres download booster which combines data and wifi. Could i tether with that on for boost in speed?

The easiest answer is to try it!

I can't see anywhere on my EE payg account that says it auto top ups each month- but I would like to stop this happening as I paid with a credit card.

I never bought the £10 addon - I activated SIM, topped up £10 and texted for the free 100GB which I have and can see this on my EE app as active.

So it looks like I've got £10 unused credit and 100GB for 30 days which I assume repeats for next month.

Seems like you have been lucky. My SIM came with the £10 data pack auto top up already applied, so when I added £10 credit I didn't have to start the £10 data pack.

I've just checked the sim that I got and you are correct, the £10 pack is queued on the sim with no apparent way to stop it (other than adding less than £10 credit and loading an alternative pack, which would then negate the 100GB add-on).

You can turn off the auto packs by texting 'STOP PACK' to 150.

Curiously I cannot view my top up credit on a web browser and cannot see the current add on pack or add any other pack including the 1G/50min/50txt pack. All these are 'currently unavailable' to see. (last few days since activating)

On my Android phone it shows my £10 credit still there, no add on except the 100GB free data for a month but allows me to buy add ons except the 1G/50min/50txt pack that the leaflet says you'd use.

I did exactly as the SIM leaflet says, 1/ insert sim, 2/ top up, 3/ text 100GB to 150
Here's my web browser account:

Edit: just received a couple of texts from EE saying thanks for topping up £10 - I got this same text yesterday when I did top up. Then I got a second text saying I'd need to buy an add on pack to be able to use data despite them already giving me the 100GB data

I get the balance for another EE account when I check via the website, which is odd. Same when using the app, which I'm not even logged in on.

Now I have registered this SIM on my EE account, but you'd assume that when it recognises me from the SIM it would show the right details!

That's poor. I would guess there is a stored cookie? I noticed the EE website lets me see data left when using WiFi which I guess is done by setting a cookie when you look at the site over 3G/4G ?

It might be, but that's poor too. Plus on this phone I've not logged in with the other SIM ever in it, so it is more likely recognising my SIM, going to my account but not selecting the right one. Only in the desktop site can you change, it would seem.

I was thinking of getting this sim. If I was to get this sim and top up £10 to get 1GB then text 150 to get free 100GB data would I be able to use tethering?

Also, could I go to my local EE store or other retail shop to get the £10 top up? Please advise.

And yes.

Cool.

I have just ordered the sim and I look forward to getting back to using my MacBook for browsing the net when I'm out as Three have now reduced tethering on their plans which sucks.

still cant find any answer for this question after looking, are these SIMs double speed?

Yes they are.

I got the 100Gb last time around and thought may as well as the speeds weren't too bad. But this time around the speeds are awful, so much so I put my 3 sim back in to stream a programme. I did a ping and got 1600 back!!!

Works fine for me at home, 12mbps solidly from 3G, and around 32mbps when the mifi migrates to a distant 4G signal.

Have you tried it in another location?

I've noticed my local mast seems slower than a few months back on a normal PAYG sim. It's probably just my imagination but I got 26mpbs on a 4g speed test where I was getting 45mbps in March.

Have you tried doing a test in the small hours of the morning? I'm finding in a lot of places that EE is a lot slower during the day.

By that, I mean down from say 70-80Mbps to 10-20Mbps. That's still obviously very good for most people, mind.

In a few places in central London, it can be far more extreme - as in down to 1-2Mbps - but that's fortunately quite rare, and it must be said that in some locations at some times you'd be happy to have even 0.5Mbps!

I'm still searching about for a place to give me speeds of over 100Mbps with one of my Cat 6 LTE devices. I suspect the problem is I'm going around London in the daytime, rather than 6 or 7am!
