Who thinks that Pat's death in EastEnders was one of the stupidest things done on any soap? Her absence leaves a big hole in the show.

I take it you're new to this place?

Lol. Killing off Pat is always a talking point on here and rightly so, it was a huge mistake!

Considering that horrid Kirkwood promised to leave the door open and suddenly slammed it shut. Wouldn't the show be better now if she was still in it?

Here we go again. Pretty much every fan of the show thinks it's a mistake and only very
Few think it wasn't.

There was no need for her to die

It's true, others should have stepped in.

I'm amazed there aren't "listed" characters set out by the BBC- i.e. characters who are untouchable for whom the door must always be left open, in case they wanted to come back ever.

Pat, Ian, Pauline, Dot, Kathy (hooray for that now being sorted), Phil, Peggy, Frank, Jeanine, Grant to name but a few.

There are some characters who, if possible, and if feasible who should never be killed off.

With Pat, it would have been perfectly believable if she moved away to NZ for a year or two. They could have still made her exit dramatic.. she could have left with a big secret. Or let David down once again that she runs to Simon as soon as he returns to the square, thereby still giving them the chance to have emotional scenes.

DTC has regularly said the character he'd most bring back if he could is Pat.

Such a shame!

Pat should have won the lottery and got herself a pad somewhere exotic. We should have had a party in the Vic before she left with her two extremely buff Swedish toyboys. A death to cancer was not a fitting exit for her character.

Agreed. Winning the lottery, and then leaving the Square in a helicopter.

Her final scene would be flying over London to this music http://youtu.be/ghKy8FRhs28

I disagree about certain characters being untouchable from being faced with the axe. It should depend on if they can come up with ideas for the character and only killed off if it's at the actors request and popular long standing characters are wanted to return. I think dot need to be killed off soon... But June won't give in until her last breath despite her poor health.

Don't worry she will be raised from the dead at some point like Kathy

I miss Pat's scenes with Janine. They were brilliant together. Pat's final scene didn't do her justice. I think a longer illness would've been better but I suppose if they didn't have time then that was that. It's a real shame she's never coming back. I doubt very much she'll get a return like Kathy.

I for one am Glad. I miss Pat of course but she had a proper fitting exit. Janine was there. David Returned and Simon made a guest stint. Would rather that then have her die of Cancer or something off screen

Kathy was very different. She "Died" in a Car crash off screen. Pat died of an ilness on screen with all her family and friends. The viewers seen her pass away. There is no way of Pat returning unless she is a ghost.

Pat staged her own death with the help of her old punter Les Coker. Pat was incorrectly diagnosed with cancer, the hospital got her mixed up with a different Pat Evans. When Pat found out the mistake, she used it to her own advantage as she wanted to get away from Derek Branning. She pretended to die at home, Les took her back to the funeral parlour and Pat then flew out of the country to Greece where Burnside owns a nice villa. The other Pat was buried in the grave of our Pat, she was poor and couldn't afford a decent send off of her own.

Pat now spends her days in the sun, drinking bottles of wine and skinny dipping with Burnside,

If that happens i'd turn EastEnders off. In fact if she came back (Not a Ghost) I'd stop watching EastEnders. If i wanted to watch OTT unrealistic tripe i'd watch Channel 4 Weekdays 6:30
