Does anyone else think they've outgrown Big Brother?

I've watched from day one of BB1 but I dont think its for me anymore. I feel sad saying that, but ever since the show moved to Five its gone more and more downmarket, the housemates have become really samey and all merge in to one. I find it hard to recall most of their names even weeks into the series now, it's all contrived.

Also I don't think they want my viewership anyway, its obvious that they are chasing the TOWIE/Geordie Sure/The Valleys etc demographic which I'm not part of and wouldn't be seen dead watching. Big Brother used to be a show watched by young old, but I think anyone over the age of 23 (or even someone younger with a brain between their ears) would struggle to engage with this lot. They're not very cerebral are they? What happened to the inteilligent coversations and working out what makes someone tick?

So whilst I still have it on in the background I find I'm now completley detached from it. I'll also watch something else on at the same time if I think it's better than BB. Most shows are these days.

CBB still has legs in it, and I still enjoy it. But I no longer watch and enjoy the civilian series.

Hmm well if true im not sure what that says about the majority around here If that thread here asking how old people are around here is anything to go by. Going on the results there.. many people are way over 23 it seems lol

For the first time since BB stared I don't really feel a connection. Maybe I am getting too old to constantly listen to what girl/guy is fit and who fancies who, and who is playing it cool as not to attract attention from so and so. Nearly every conversation is about who they fancy!

Outgrew the show ten years ago, but have yet to outgrow the forum.

.. I could quite easily find valid reasons to nominate every single one of them.

The way it is now i think anyone who has reached the age of 20 has probably outgrown it, but people continue to watch out of habit. If it was a new thing no one would bother with it.

Sometimes I get the feeling I have.

I am too old now for the audience they want to attract.

However I will stick with it and this forum despite that

It has it's moments. Not as good as it was on c4. They seem to have too many young people in these days.

There have all always been conversations like that though, it just seems ever so tedious now.

It's always been mainly young people on it even in the c4 days

It was younger skewed the last two series on CH4, but there was always a mix of people and backgrounds. Yes we had a few famous by association types like Chanelle, Ziggy, Noirin and that, but it was ENJOYABLE.

Now it's just souless and full of the "trendy people".

Yes, you're right. That leads me to conclude that it is me that is the problem. I am fast becoming an old fart and not the audience that C5 want any more.

Hey you might not be the audience channel 5 want... but your the one they get! I doubt any self-respecting generation zedder would tune into this crap.

I don't remember such an emphasis on in house "romances" in the old days, although there were a few.
Also the tasks were in general more demanding and BB seemed more in charge.

Then take away live feed, allow outside interference, even outside visits and the whole thing has lost its point and it is very hard to justify watching it now.

The final straw is BOTS, which is just a disgrace and adds absolutely nothing to BB.

I don't think anyone can outgrow BB - other people will always be fascinating. Look at our TV show, films, books - they are almost all about people - because that's what fascinates us.... their behaviour and the reasons why.

The issue now of course is that BB as was - ordinary people in a house, no outside influence - has long, long gone. Everyone is just so media-savvy these days, there are so many more media channels to grab people's attention that viewing figures and/or income become more crucial than ever... and I fear that's what drives the manipulation.

This year, with the timebomb theme, they're not even having to hide their manipulation! It's front and centre for all to see - viewing figures and/or income are god, and they'll do whatever it takes to make sure they get those figures.

It's the manipulation I've outgrown... not watching people in a house.

I'm in absolute agreement, vodka-drinka! I'm not so sure it's my age (which is VERY old!!) but more that the people they get are so utterly boring. Yes, we always had very young people but they were more normal I think... and we weren't told what to think as much. Nor were the HMs manipulated to anything like the degree they are now.
The only reason I watch these days - and I can take it or leave it - is reading the posts on here. Apart from the frequent quarrels over favourites etc, the wit and perception shown by our little community are far more entertaining than the prog itself.. and worth putting up with the mess we watch.

As others have said, so did the CH4 years. In fact the classic BB3 series has one of the youngest averages. BB16 in generalsis older skewing.

I'm the same. We all know it's never going to be the same and that live feed are all things of the past now but I will still watch and bob in here. It is very quiet here though .. maybe it will pick up as the show goes along.

As an avid Live Feed fan of old,I've all but given up on the C5 show as it's not the show I used to enjoy so much any more.
So far this series I've watched the launch and last Friday,I may tune in for this Friday or meh maybe not.
I just don't care that much about it nowadays.
I can find out what's happened on here or in 140 chars thanks to C5's ongoing commitment to news from the house as it happens ..lol

I'm starting feel that way but I'm fighting it!... I was 25 when BB started and most of my pals were into it. Now I get the pee taken out of me by my friends for watching it. But I've stuck with it since day one. never missed a series, even that teen one! Now I guess I'll just have to say it's my guilty pleasure...

I've definitely finished with it now, I haven't watched this one at all but I do miss this forum so I shall just stick to popping in occasionally and having a read.

I haven't! I too have watched it from day one, and yes it's changed a lot, but I still love watching it.
