In the first week of BB3, the viewers nominated the Housemates for eviction, and the Housemates had to choose who went. Jade and Lynne were nominated, and the Housemates chose to evict Lynne.
Has anyone ever reflected on the fact that had they chosen Jade instead, it would have changed the whole history of Big Brother, and by extension the rest of reality TV as well? Had Jade gone early on, she wouldn't have been invited onto Celebrity Big Brother and the Shilpa row would never have happened. Had that been the case, the producers most likely would not have got so picky about reprimanding Housemates for certain things that they do or say, and the social situations probably wouldn't be as controlled. And it was after Shilpagate that people started thinking the programme was going downhill, so that was a milestone, even though I wasn't watching it then. Who knows, maybe it would still be on Channel 4, if it had remained popular.
Additionally, I think that Jade Goody had quite a key presence in the celeb culture world. I feel like she glorified the stereotype of being a bit thick and made certain things a little less intellectual, which could easily be considered the forerunner of programmes like The Only Way Is Essex (which admittedly I've never watched, so perhaps that is a little insulting, but I'm going on what I've heard).
Has anyone else thought how reality TV would have developed if the BB3 lot had chosen to evict Jade over Lynne? Bit of a butterfly effect there.
