ED .. Bye Bye Betty
This week sees Betty's last scenes as Paula Tilbrook retires.
The party tonight in the woolpack you could tell that there was no acting required and the cast are sad to see her go. But Betty being back has made me realise just what a legend she is and how well Paula Tilbrook has played her. I have missed Betty and her gossiping and there will definately be a betty shaped hole in the dales anyone else sad to see her go? end of an era for me she surely deserves soap icon status |

She's barely been featured in recent years due to age/health issues so I'm quite happy for her to get a proper send off like this.

At least Paulas time on the show, had a proper ending, not one which i feel a way down the line could be another off screen death

I don't watch Emmerdale, but i know who Betty is and remember watching it at my nan's when I was little.
How lovely that she is having a nice on-screen send off. I find it awful when characters have to be written out due to ill health/passing and just vanish only to have a funeral later. This is a lovely ending. And I agree - she is a soap icon

You see posters on Digital Spy soap threads, saying ooh the old charactetrs are boring they bring nothing to the program.
But the showing on here about viewers being upset about Paula Leaving, it shows the older characters are as well loved, or maybe even more loved than the younger actors on some soaps. who appear fpr a year or 2, but are then forgotten. |

They are the real Emmerdale. Not just older age-wise, but long standing.
Pity some producers can't grasp that. now its all cheap shocks and easy stunts for a weeks worth of drama over good old fashioned stories of peoples lives. in the everyday world the characters are the people like Betty and Dot in EE who like to gossip yes but have stories to tell too |

I have said a number of times I will miss Betty. Yes at times she was nosy, interfereing and generally grated on you at times, but when they finally leave, you realise how much you miss them.
She is one of the last remaining cast member from Emmerdales 1990s heyday, and it is safe to say that it is a very different style programme from her first to last day on set. It's sad to see that Emmerdale is gradually slipping away as it's long term characters fade away, and I know some choose to leave or retire, but it's okay to bring in new blood and new life show, but what's the use of that when you lose the history. I mean is there anybody in that show who was there on the night of the plane crash! Anyway, enough said, I will miss her. |

I hate that no one sticks around anymore, yes you should have people coming and going but you need a good core of characters/people that stick around for a long long time like Betty.

Not true. Robert and Victoria were also 'there'. People just forget that because they're recasts. Maybe not Vic, I can't remember if she was born or not.

Vic was born in March 1994, 2 months after. Her presence helped Annie Sugden come out of her coma. Betty arrived around about the same time.

She did, but they say you never miss the water until the well runs dry.
Also Marlon, Zac and Lisa. Bob now, even Rodney although we hardly see him any more. What would we do without Edna? And JImmy and Nicola !!! ![]() I don't like Victoria much but she comes into the category too. I like Victoria but they need to split her up from adam, if only they hadnt made Finn Gay. can definately see Victoria being betty in a few years. loved their gossipy scenes they had |
