Hi I'm working on this model, but it's driving me nuts , no power, no stand by 5 volts, no domed capacitors but every time i replace one the TV bounces back to life, until it's been unplugged for an hour then dead again, i
Have bought a new powerboard and this is doing exactly the same !!!! If I trick the main
Board into receiving power by using an external power supply it fires up
Again , so it must still be a power board issue , but where ? It is such a common fault with this model that I think my replacement board must also be faulty. Any help please ?

Caps don't have to be domed necessarily to be faulty. Use a hair dryer to warm them. If the set fires up then you found your suspect. Cool them with Freeze Spray. If the set doesn't fire then you double confirmed.

For silicon (transistors, diodes etc) use cooling to bring intermittent components back to life temporarily, and heat to provoke a failure state.

Thanks Chris, hair dryer fired it up on the new board, at least I don't have to send the board back to Emos , just meet to find which one of the 12 is faulty.

Unless you've got an ESR meter, then simply blanket change them all - use high quality, 105 degree, low ESR capacitors - Panasonic or Rubycon are the ones I tend to use.

Don't buy them from Maplin, who only keep crappy ones.

Thanks Nigel, always use 105 ,s I have a meter so will check, the TV fired up again this morning, so my dilemma is .... Shal I send this board back to Emos it was £40. And I doubt the hair dryer trick will keep It alive much longer ,

I have another faulty one ( again capacitor faults) which only cost £7. And £4 in new caps
But there's no garuntee this other one is just bad caps. And these boards are becoming rare.

Decisions.
