Is James Bye slowly starting to grow on you as New Martin?
I've been a fan from the off but many were opposed or not easily won over.
Are feelings /opinions starting to change? I think they've gone the right way about his introduction -slow burn so we get used to him rather than a big dramatic arrival followed by a dip in interest as hype can't sustain the character. Not to mention his likely upcoming romance with popular Stacey may also be winning folk over. It's certainly endeared him to me more. I think he's growing into an understated heartthrob -a category I think is more durable than soap hunk. Thoughts? |

I've no problems with the actor but I still can't see him as Martin Fowler

The problem is that old Martin was in the role for 11 years. It's very hard to take a recast seriously after the previous actor played the character for such a long time.
The actor is ok but I can't see him as Martin Fowler. |

Yes he is growing on me too. ...
Always found his "nose" a bit annoying but yes, well done him cos it can't be easy taking over from another actor and a longstanding one like James Alexandrou was probably even more difficult..... Anyway, well done...NEW James is doing really well bless him. |

I've also loved him from very early on in the re-cast, but I also think the re-cast has been brilliant and so natural. The way James B plays him is so like OldMartin, it's brilliant. For me, James B brings a bit more charisma with his way of playing Martin, but he is just the normal guy that Martin always was.

I have really liked him ever since he first started. He's a really good fit to the character in terms of appearance and mannerisms. I am a big fan of James Alexandrou, and I am glad that James A has been replaced by James B instead of Nonentity Z.

I quite like him. I think he looks like old Martin so it's been OK plus he's a competent actor. He's playing an every day bloke very well. I was never a big fan of Martin in the original stint but I like new Martin well enough.

Far superior to James. He's bedding in. Having to take over from a mediocre actor isn't easy. Once the majority of audience buy him as Martin they will progress the character.

I like him. It helps that James has said in the press that he was offered a return and turned it down. so it's easier to accept someone else in the part.
I'm liking the way his character is developing again, with the relationship with Stacey. |

I think he has settled in very well.
Recasts can go several ways but I think James Bye has taken on the role nicely. James Alexandrou's Martin was prominent give that he was around for many years (20 or so?) but he wasn't such an iconic character that replacing actor was so off limits. Kim Medcalf's Sam Mitchell is the embodiment of upgraded recasts. On the other hand, the current Shabnam pales in comparison to the original one, although I accept that she wasn't around long enough in the first instance to really make a name. |

He's nice to look at... I think he's doing great as Martin. We need to give him a chance but I think it'll take a little longer to see him as 'Martin' as the amount of history we had with old Martin.

Yeah I'm use to him as Martin he settle in well, I don't have any issues with his acting, he a run of a mill sort of character really, I think it was always gonna be hard to have someone else at first as Old Martin played by JA was on screen with both Pauline and Mark while this one wasn't so it hard to try and connect the two sometimes but I think he making him he own, that's all he can do really.

He's not a good match with Stacey & he's jut remaining on the square to be a thorn in the side of Sonia. conversely I can't hack Natalie Cassidy but I can totally see why Sonia is back in the square & actually she's fitting in well to be honest. |
