Harriet & Sarah: "But I'm a woman"
Master Ozzy
23-05-2015
Did this annoy anyone else during the Harriet and Danny argument? In the bedroom when Harriet was going nuts, she kept saying "I'm a woman, you don't speak to a woman like that". Then when Sarah was trying to get Danny to apologise to Harriet, she said to him "Apologise, she's a girl". So what?!! So because she's a girl, she should be allowed to go absolutely nuts and behave like a complete lunatic at someone, and he can't be rude in retaliation? She deserved everything Danny said to her and I don't think he should have apologised at all to her. It's 2015 for god sake, women have rights these days just as much as men. Pulling out the "I'm a woman" card is pathetic. As for Sarah, just like the rest of the housemates, I think she was siding with Harriet and trying to get Danny to apologise as she thinks Harriet is still one of the favourites with the public. I mean, nobody in their right mind would seriously believe that he should be approaching her and apologising.

Yes it annoyed me. I'm female and I don't believe being a woman gives you any special privileges when it comes to arguments. She shouted at him, he shouted back. He told her to shut up she told everyone to shut up. No difference IMHO.

Harriet didn't think of being a woman and not being spoken to 'like that' when she stood up when all the HMs were shouting at each other and bellowed. SHUT UP

Hypocrisy, or what

I felt sorry for Danny here, Harriet kept over talking him and he probably didn't mean for 'shut up' to come out like It did, he was just rushing his words because he kept being over talked by harriet

That disturbed me. I, personally, would've said: 'she's a human being and I treated her the way I saw appropriate'.

I think he was wrong, though, because he was being overly aggressive.

im a woman who cringes when other women play that card. if a woman wants to act mouthy, she needs to accept it the other person can respond in kind. harriet/reg varney is dumb but sarah isnt and she surprised me by pylling that stunt.

Agree, OP. It's a crafty card to play... "I'm a laydee, a delicate little flower so you shouldn't talk to me like that" when she's clearly a scrapper.
It's particularly unpleasant because the insinuation is that an angry male is far more scary and potentially dangerous than the ranting female he's arguing with.

Sarah is smart though, she knows how it could look for Danny shouting at a girl, some people find it wrong. I think it was her way of covering all Danny's bases both for nom's next week with HM's and with the public.

I don't live by that ridiculous "code" that a woman shouldn't shouted at no matter what. If a female starts mouthing off at me, she'll get the same back.

It's interesting that this was aired on the same day a video of a 14yo girl had another kid (boy) by the collar threatening to punch him.

I find this women's privilege disturbing. This is the first time I've heard of a woman coming out with "but I'm a woman and you can't tell me to shut up". It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.

Her hypocricy knows no bounds. Moments before, she bellowed at Joel to shut up.

She is getting on my wick

She was as equally aggressive. I think women like Harriet sets womenkind back.

But it's OK for a woman to shout at a man?

Neither look good IMHO. However if you shout at someone then expect to be shouted back at choose as what gender you are IMHO

Many women out there will actually think less of you if you let them walk all over you. In fact i've had partners who would have had even more of a go if i just stood there and said nothing during discussion/arguments.

I don't know many, if any women who'd have pulled that 'card'. No self-respecting intelligent woman thinks equality means they get to behave badly while a man is held to a different standard.

It is unbelievable that she came out with that in the middle of a full on melt down because she was told to shut up when she was shouting in someone's face.

The best thing was that as said above, she was roaring at Joel to shut up just minutes before!

She's just an aggressive, common, entitled scumbag and I can't stand her

I've known women to use that excuse before. I definitely don't agree with Danny telling Harriet to shut up, but I don't think ANYONE should be telling anyone else to shut up. Her being a woman is inconsequential, and as a feminist I find it insulting for Harriet to play that card.

I don't think he was overly aggressive, Harriet definitely was though. He was just reacting to someone shouting in his face.

So what, you just expect Danny to take being shouted at like that ? If we want equality in this world then you can't favour one side.

I agree. It sounded odd and I didn't get why Sarah backed her up on this view and Danny seemed to tolerate it. All very peculiar.

Me too! Man or woman, expect to get back what you give. Danny pretty much shouted at her the way she shouted at Joel and then over Danny before that. Sarah needs to stop butting in too, they're adults who can speak for themselves.

Reminds me of a news story on Loose Women the other day. A teenage girl was filmed repeatedly punching a teenage boy in the head and the Loose Women were praising him for not hitting back, glad that he was taught 'you don't hit a woman'. Sorry, but if you're a man and a woman is punching you in the head, you do hit back. Sod chauvinism. I'd rather not get brain damage because of some idiotic, sexist rule.
