Nokia 3330 phone.messages cannot be opened or erased
I have a Nokia mobile phone on the vodaphone network; I have two messages in the in box for some months that will not open and when I try to open them they freeze the phone and then the phone switches off then on again; I have been told that if I have the phone to sett to clear messages after one hour they will be erased but I do not have the phone on all the time and when I had it on overnight several times the messages are still there;
I note there is a setting that says 'restore to factory settings' but if I press that what will be erased? What information on the phone will I lose and what settings will be changed? Basically, how can I get the phone to get rid of the two messages I do not want? of interest one says just 'message' and the other says from 'Vodaphone' but neither will open or let me erase them ...any help gratefully received ..thanks |

There are a couple of possibilities here, if you can get hold of a suitable lead and software you could try deleting the messages from a PC - if you can find one with a serial port.
It may be that the SMS database has an error. In which case a factory reset will cure this. It will put the phone back to when it is new, so you will lose anything that isn't backed up elsewhere. The other issue is the failure of the memory. The memory is well beyond its design lifetime (The 3330 was announced in 2001 ) and there have been several reports of the memory failing. If this is the case it may be unrecoverable. |

Many thanks for the helpful reply; am I correct in thinking then that if I go for the 'restore factory settings' I will get rid of all the messages on the phone ( but not lose the phone settings )
I have the phone numbers in the phone book noted elsewhere so can re-copy them in if needed |

Everything will be reset to the way it was when the handset was new out of the box, including the settings.
