Facetime for Android?

Hi All,

Is there a good alternative to Facetime on an Andriod device?

I am a Skype user but I want to be able to just dial someone up and not log into Skype first in the same way I could on my Iphone. Is it better Android to Android? I have a video call function which displays on my contacts, but it never seems to work? Is there a special set up required?

Thanks in advance.....

Lucy

Thank you - my partner has a Moto G phone (about 15 months old) also using Android - but when ever I try to video call him using the video call function next to his name in my contacts it just says call failed or unable to connect at this time.

Video calling in the contacts may refer to the old-style video calling over the mobile network that the networks used to charge a fortune per minute for, rather than video calling via a third party service using a data connection.

Use the Hangouts or Facebook Messenger apps and try from in there.

Hangouts works the closest way to facetime of all the types I've tried, though I've often found the picture quality to be inferior to Facetime and to suffer from audio sinc problems. Skype is good and on Android to android if I recall once you eave yourself logged in automatically someone can call you anytime, Android to ios is more hit and miss as if I recall the app has to be open even if it's just in the background (one ones shown when you double click the home button) for you to be available for calls,

or Skype.
