chromecasting VPN output without smart DNS etc from PC
Hi, Thanks to a poster on another forum (who I cannot find again), I have found a way of using a chromecast when connected to a VPN using the excellent connectify-max software, without any router modifications, smart dns settings etc.
NOTE: This is proper casting, not the full screen (mirror) casting which requires video playing on PC. 1) Install connectify-max on your PC (hurry for 70% off today - last day of deal). 2) start connectify and create a WIFI hotspot, factory reset chromecast, and setup connecting it to WIFI hotspot. Once set up disconnect it again (not sure if this is essential but its what I did). 3) connect pc to a VPN e.g. vpnuk, overplay etc (even the free HOLA I think). 4)Stop connectify wifi hotspot, and restart it again selecting VPN in "Internet to Share" pull down box. 5) using chrome browser, go to website e.g. www.CBS.com (eg from UK) 6) click chromecast icon and start casting. Works with Netflix USA as well! BTW: This should work with Connectify PRO which has a 1 week free trial at the moment (search web for "connectify pro free trial". Only minor PITA is that you have to factory reset CC back to router if you dont want to use VPN and PC. Of course - it may just be easier to buy a second chromecast (if you have a second HDMI port or a 2 into 1 switchable HDMI connector?) |

the free options have less features. Dont know if they could handle vpn and chromecast. Worth a try.
