O2 Network Down
So how many of you on here have no o2 signal at the moment as seems like its a network issue.
My Tesco Mobile is working fine at the moment but seems that some people are having issues. Is this linked to the Gift Gaff network coming under attack? |

How exactly do you attack a mobile network, with an angle grinder I presume ?
They said that the network issues are separate according to a post on giffgaff community, which is now back up. My signal has come back so maybe the network issues are now resolved too. |

All those people with no 3G, yet, hey, they can still tweet, because they are on WifI (probably because they're at home) so what's the big deal ! Some really do need to get a sense of proportion. It's not as if they are without running water or sanitation

According to a thread giffgaff were told to pay money in a thread by a poster on their community. If they didn't pay the poster said they would DDOS them, then the main website was up and down all yesterday, then the community was down most of today and just before iit came back there were errors from a DDOS protection proxy provider.
They said that the network issues are separate according to a post on giffgaff community, which is now back up. |

Of course no one knows as its just people guessing the two are linked. |

I disagree if you are awaiting a call, meeting people it can be frustrating. Sometimes people on zero hours contracts will be expecting calls, these days people like to stay in touch. However it hadn't been down for long (the network ) and all networks have issues occasionally.

Yes exactly, more fool any network that has a 'back door' into their network operation via their public domain website.

via WiFi Whatsapp, imessage, Facebook, etc etc. I run my own business, and I make damn sure I'm not reliant on any single organisation or method to remain 'connected'. It's going to be a right old laugh when that big solar flare hits, isn't it !! |

If you're out and about you need a phone, no good what'sapping the RAC when you break down and I've yet to meet an employer that contacts their staff on Whatsapp, not everyone has messenger services in people's family either. |

How about paying for a service they aren't receiving or phone calls & texts. If it's not working, you have every right to complain.

As I said in the giffgaff thread yesterday: it's time O2 had a decent outage, they were almost beginning to look competent
Will Hutchison's first act after the takeover be to fire their network operations staff (or cancel the contract with whoever does it for them) and let 3/their contractor run the show? Oh, and the beancounters who seem to refuse to spend any money on the network in the first place I have to agree with the other people who are saying that people who rely on their phone should have a backup. It's especially important when the main phone is on O2, but if you rely on it for business you can definitely afford a landline or second phone on a different network, regardless of who it is If only our Glasgow correspondant was here to confirm that O2 3G up there was as belting in as ever... |

I agree but actually you don't as by law the networks don't have to guarantee service.

Lol you are right about being due a network failure. Wasn't the last one rumoured to be o2 updating software and it going wrong? Lol
![]() I think the two major outages in 6 months in 2011 or 2012 was because the same piece of equipment failed (the HLR I think?) and there was no redundancy or backup. Possibly not totally O2's fault, but after the first outage I'd have thought fixing the single point of failure to be high priority |

Its like everything though, all done on a budget. You would hope all these networks are nice and secure though as does seem strange this happens the same time giff gaff is coming under attack.
You would hope and expect the web server to have no links with the main telephone network kit. |

Vodafone did have a serious outage several years ago because of a break in and theft at one of their premises
http://www.computerweekly.com/news/1...network-outage I hadn't even noticed my phone was dead, until I read about it in here after a few hours. Same story, people on Twitter complaining they'd spent an hour on hold to Vodafone, when actually a simple Google search would have revealed it was a major network failure |

It gets better ...
Claim is that also affecting phones over seas with people who are roaming on other networks. Sounds like a similar failing to what o2 have had before |
