Why do they rarely have older men in the House?

They quite frequently have a token older Housemate, but it's nearly always a woman. Why don't they make a change, put an older man in?

They've actually never had a man over 50. The oldest male Housemate ever was Jonathan from BB8, who was 49 at the time.

Men peak at 30. No longer interesting, whereas women's looks may start to fade as they age but that's when they become more interesting when they no longer have to rely on appearance.

How old was Showbiz? (not that he ever really made housemate status)

Rubbish if any thing men get better as they age. A lot of ladies will even agree there.

I think he was 46, although he looked about 60.

They do if they're gay, or they do if its a celeb edition and they're washed up hackey old f@ckers, who bring the nostalgia.

But an ordinary, straight, older man? Nah. They don't dare!

The celebrity version seems to be mainly oldies with a few youngsters, perhaps the civilian version goes more for the younger ones with raging hormones for a different dynamic.

Plus, youngsters and actors don't seem to be tied to regular employment which enables them to spend a few weeks on the show.

Can't imagine they get that many applicants who are male and older.

Also any that do apply are most probably really boring old gits with big egos thinking they are the main attraction

Yes, men look their best when they've lost all their hair and develop moobs and beer guts.

If Showbiz was the best they could find they should be rarer still.

Jonathon from BB8 was an older male Housemate who seemed like he had potential to be interesting.

Had his moments and seemed like he was building until he unfortunately had to leave due to the passing of his Grandmother (Who was over 100 I believe)

Men of all ages seem to lose hair now.. you see it quite a lot. Older guys in my family notice that. Apparently young guys back in the day very rarely lost hair at younger ages. Some thing in the water now may be these days lol Guys losing hair younger looks more common now.

As for massive guts an older guy doesn't have to have that theres many an older guy in better shape than many a younger one. Look at Jack for instance lol Even Joel and Nick too not exactly in that great shape. Weight problems with younger people are also more common now.

But men do generally age well facially in terms of wrinkles/ eye bags and such.

Because most of them have lives they don't want to give up for three months.

And yet women do? Why would that be?

When I was auditioning, my dad planned to audition as well, just because he was going to keep me company in the queue and he said after waiting all that time he may as well give it a go (this was in the days when they still had open auditions). It didn't work out like that though because I ended up getting fast-tracked and not having to wait at all, so my dad didn't bother. I always thought it would be funny if he'd got in and I hadn't.

That is almost completely wrong .. I'm a man in my early fifties, and didn't really have the first idea what I was doing in life until my mid thirties, a time when according to you I was already past it!
