Hi confused as to getting different dialling tones
Im trying to call a friend we are both on EE and have magic numbers we live 400 miles away from each other at times when i dial her number it goes straight onto answer phone therefor it is switched off or i get a long tone as in international dialling tone as though they are abroad then answerphone/voicemail comes on, but then i can call and get a uk to uk dialling tone as i would call normal.

Any ideas as to how it can change so much i have left messages via voicemail and text messages since thursday but no reply battery cant be dead as it still rings could she be out the country or still in the uk but the tones are international or uk tones seems.
voicemail always kicks in after 5 rings.
Thank you.
Ps im calling from ee on a iphone and a old nokia from 02 if that makes any difference and they both vary.

No idea.

EE wifi calling has an international style dial tone.

If your not noticing wifi calling at the top of your phone and it's specific to only calls to that person they are either abroad or have call direction in place.

Mobiles don't have dialling tones

You mean ringing tones.

I've had international style ringing tones on UK to UK calls, it gets complicated, it's all tied up with protocols used by terminating and originating exchanges and switches

Random Google:-

As he has Magic Numbers I doubt he is actually on EE, but rather on Orange. No wificalling on Orange.

Why would you get billed if the other caller is roaming abroad?

For goodness sake, you don't get billed for international calls unless you specifically dial an international number... That's a number that starts with 00 or + and is followed by anything other than 44.

Well Orange/EE customer services are totally clueless then.

If you dial a UK mainland number, mobile (or landline), its makes no difference whether
the phone is next door, or in New Zealand, you are NOT charged any roaming element, only the owner of that phone.

Yup and this is why you pay to receive calls when you are roaming.

They (or you) have slightly muddled the facts. The person abroad will pay for the incoming call even if it goes straight to voicemail.
