EE or Three?
After living abroad for a couple of years I'll be returning to the UK next month. Now, I'm only back for two of weeks before moving away again but I'll need a sim card to get in touch with people.
I'm mainly looking for a sim with data rather than text and minutes so EE and Three look the best. Anyone on here from The Wirral/Cheshire/North Wales that can give opinions on signals on those areas? I'll be on the areas the most and just want to know which company has the better signal. I'm so used to LTE but I expect I won't get a constant LTE at all times (especially North Wales). Thanks. |

I work in Cheshire, and '3' is rubbish in Congleton - sub 1mbps download most of the time, and its been like that now for the best part of two years. EE has just brought 4G to around 75% of the Town so its far faster.
However a few miles away, 3 is fine, giving 10mbps it can vary that much even for short distances in the same area. For this reason, its a good idea to try each network on PAYG or a 30 day rolling contract for a month or two first before committing to any longer term contract. This way, you can test which network works best for you, in the place(s) you will be using it the most. |

If you already have acces to a UK postal address why don't you order one of the 100GB promotion sims from EE?
http://shop.ee.co.uk/campaigns/limited-edition-sim Top up £10 when you arrive and you will have 100GB for 30 days. Discussed in http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2073072 |

Just note that Feel at Home only works for 1 month abroad. Also you only get free calls and texts to UK numbers, so he'd still be paying to contact local people, wherever he's going.

It's a shame EE don't still offer the roaming package I'm on. Inclusive calls back to the UK and within the country you're in, and to any other country that's in the list (EU/EEA/USA/Oz/Russia). No wonder they withdrew it !
So it still applies for a lot of EU countries. It's just the list was reduced in size. |

Three and EE seem pretty much identical in Wirral, coverage everywhere with just a few small blackspots in parts of Lower Heswall, parts of West Kirby and Meols, but nothing major. As for North Wales, again both networks are pretty similar and the more rural you go the more likely you are to be without signal. Built up areas in N.Wales are fine though.

Unless three was down last week when I was there I never had 4G but did when in Blackpool.

Around Llandudno is where I'll be for a few days visiting my dad. So as long as I can get a decent signal on EE, I'll be making good use of the 100gb sim.

In Cheshire i find that EE is better as you still get 2G backup in a lot of places where as Three you don't anymore. Same in North Wales as well some places Three have turned off 2G.
