No character should be immune to the axe in any soap. If they have ran out of ideas for the character then no point keeping them.

It's clear from the way Dennis was wasted since his return in 2011 that none (at least, very few) of the writers gave a **** about him. That was the mistake, more than axing him, which at least you could ascribe to getting rid of deadwood.
Killing off Tina was a brilliant move and led to the year's biggest storyline. Michelle Keegan had quit and it made sense to give her a huge exit due to her popularity. |

Everything that's happened since 2013. That's what Blackburn's done wrong. The man doesn't know how to run a soap.

Giving away WAYYY too many spoilers & previews.
We know why Jenny Bradley is acting she way she does (which actually ruins a half decent plot), We know how the fire in Victoria Court begins (which means Tracy will get off) |

1. Tina & Peter's affair
2. Having Tracy save Carla, yet still show hatred towards her. 3. Steve's depression storyline 4. Not having Tracy actually get the Rover's. |

His wrong idea that everyone just loves certain characters, Sean, Michelle, Andrea, Maddie, Kai and his family. Especially the ones he has introduced.
His loose lips re upcoming s/l months in advance, Fayes pregnancy, Tina's murder, Tracy's affair with Tony. I won't mention upcoming s/ls that he has not just leaked, but screamed from the rooftops. The man is obsessed with appearing on daytime tv and spilling the beans about s/ls. By the time these stories are aired you are sick of them, there is no element of surprise any more. Silly s/ls and boring characters, all this allotment nonsense, the egg laying, David and the fairy drug dealer, not to mention the abomination that is Sarah and Bethany. He seems to have some sort of fixation on "feisty, strong" girls, i.e. gobby, loud, nasty completely vile girls that you would cross the street to avoid. See Maddy as well in this section. I think his biggest mistake is in thinking that he can produce a good soap. He almost ruined forever Emmerdale, and then they give him Corrie, an institution that was. if not sensational, was at least watchable. He is slowing killing this soap off, is this his aim I wonder? |

He is a lesser reptoid, not holding anywhere near the same status as the Queen and Barack Obama, but he is dangerous all the same. Blackburn works for the BBC - a reptoid organisation used primarily for propaganda and brainwashing - with the goal of dismantling Coronation Street cobble by cobble. |

Inflicting a constant negative vibe, character personality transplants, poor direction, below-par writing and the beat goes on

Tina was in the show for over six-years, and deserved a major exit. Yes I know people here whine and cry how she was "promised" for the door to be left open, but things do change and Michelle Keegan obviously agreed to it as she had her contract renewed to build up to the story. Fair play the build up with the horrible affair with Peter was crap, but the murder week was good. I bet if she left in the back of a cab there would be moaning about how rubbish it was. And despite liking Dennis, the character's return was pointless and this blame should lie with Collinson as well. Phil Collinson barely did anything with the character when reintroducing him to the show, and funnily enough most of the comments of here couldn't stand Dennis at the best of times. People forget that. |

I do think killing Tina was a mistake as Corrie struggles to appeal to the younger demo, something Tina did. Obvs Michelle is a lot more popular than Tina whose characterisation was wishy washy at the best of times but I still think some tuned in just to see her.
Another thing, putting aside the fact they killed her off, the story was quite awful with the nonsensical Peter/Tina affair. Tina was no homewrecker and if she was she wouldn't go for a drunk 20 years her senior, while Peter's betrayal of Carla was silly after everything he went through with Leanne to be with her the supposed love of his life. Even the actual murder didn't quite work as it involved Tina doing bizarre things like running out on to a balcony and then practically begging Rob to throw her over and finish her off on the ground. I liked all the stuff with Rob's arrest though. Losing him was another downside to the story though as in many people's eyes he made Tracy likeable. Btw OP there have actually been quite a few threads like this over the past year or so.

'The Hat' reminds me of when 'The Butcher' destroyed Crossroads in 1989!
In this case, it is impossible to destroy Corrie - but he is spoiling it a bit!! How about a reputable producer like Russell T. Davies take over for a while and guide it back into the right direction?! |

Or Daran Little? I know he's primarily a writer but he's got Corrie in his blood and I think he could do for them what DTC has for EE.
As a big Doctor who fan myself id love for Russell to take the helm

Almost everything he has done since Peter and Carla's wedding night unfortunately. Would be easier to say things that he's done right but he doesn't deserve the praise.

My gut instinct has always told me that there was some bad blood between Daran and the more senior management at Corrie leading up to the time of his first departure in 2006. I know that he made subsequent returns to write for the show here and there, but something about his relationship with Corrie changed dramatically between 2004 and 2006. This is the man who really did live and breathe Coronation Street - now he's barely involved with the show. Whether this was down to Daran simply wanting to broaden his career or down to internal tensions at ITV we'll never know. I often wonder if he was overlooked for promotion within the Coronation Street team more than once and decided he had had enough. I would love to see him back. He is the obvious choice for Coronation Street and something that the show desperately needs. |
