I don't have particularly high hopes for this one. The charts are utterly dire at the moment. The worst they have been for a good few years IMO.

However, I doubt Ellie Goulding or the The Weeknd will feature. Ellie would have been on Now 90, and tracks from movie soundtracks rarely make the albums.

If that was the case, "Happy" wouldn't have been on NOW 87 and other songs from other films wouldn't be appearing. As for the charts being dire, it's streaming what's done this to the charts

I'm unsure why Now! couldn't get the rights to include Ellie Goulding on Now! 90.

The one thing that disappoints me about these predictions is that most of the time the predictions look brilliant compared to what actually ends up on the next Now! album.

I'm more worried about Rihanna. She seems to be getting snubbed off every compilation lately

3. Jack Ü featuring Justin Bieber - "Where Are Ü Now"
I haven't heard the song, but I can tell from that song name that I'm going to hate it. (That and the fact it has Justin Bieber.)

Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber producing a song together would seem like my worst nightmare but surprisingly Where Are Ü Now isn't that bad. It's not brilliant but I can tolerate it.

I think they will reveal the cover this Friday. They revealed the NOW 88 and NOW 90 covers six weeks before their releases. I hope they use either sun-cream bottles, armbands or rubber-rings for the NOW 91 cover

It just looks like it's going to be a rehash of Now 85 but with added water droplets. Pretty uninspired tbh.

I VOWED as a teenager to never lose touch with the charts and did well up until this year when they have honestly got so bad that even though there is some good stuff there it is not enough to sweeten the dross.

Pop quizzes are the mainstay of pub and social evenings but none of these songs will ever make it to a quiz - we are in a real deep quality dip. I remember thinking in around 2004 and on how lucky were to have a chart filled with such good music and picked up some NOW compilations for the car. I still pick them up and consider buying them but end up putting them back.

Well that is tragic. No rock, punk, pop punk, metal, rock N roll, etc. Dire.

I don't know ANY of those songs.

I thought I had loads of time left before I began to lose touch... Though given the state of the mainstream industry these days, that's probably for the best.

With that tracklisting: I never thought I'd get to the stage where I knew very few of the songs. It turns out I've reached that stage, as I only know five of those songs. (It wouldn't be too bad if I was older than I actually am - I turn 25 next month.)

And here's the artwork.

(Don't bother reading the reviews - those are for Now 1991.)

I wonder if the charts are the way they are because those of us of a certain age - I used to buy 7 and 12 inch singles and then CD singles - are turned off by downloads?

Maybe it's just me but I don't like them and want something that's of better quality. I've never really been an album buyer so I end up buying the odd now album and that's it.

I'd happily buy the latest Florence and the machine and Brandon Flowers singles, but haven't and wish they were included here but doubt they will.

So are certain types of 'older' style pop singles not being bought or is it just me?

Glad to see "Bills" will be part of NOW's history, is the catchiest and most different chart track of the year, got to #2. What are the main chart hits missing?

Don't think I'll be rushing out to buy it. To be perfectly honest I've only ever heard of about two of the artists out of that lot.

Must be getting old , or something

I'm 34 and you always have to wonder if chart music IS mediocre sometimes or whether it's because you are starting to not see it the same because of your age, thankfully there are always at least SOME good hits you enjoy.

On Now 91 as a 34 year old chart fan I like;

Lunchmoney Lewis - Bills (it might be grating, a right wing Jeremy Kyle style message but can't deny how good the hook is and how well it works as a track, glad this is now headlining Disc 2)

Omi - Cheerleader, the usual braindead sexy women going after bad boys style music video, but the track is catchy, it headlines Now 91 on Disc 1.

Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Really Really Really Really Really Like You - fun enough pop song, not quite up there with 2012's "Call Me Maybe" which even the Guardian thought was cool!

Lean On is a good dance track sounding like the 2015 style

Then there's a lot more I don't really know, I know a lot of the names but I bet when I get it I'll recognise quite a few more off the radio. When you get older, does it get to a point where new chart music doesn't even seem interesting, already the charts don't quite seem as exciting, but when I was but a lad it was actually almost essential still to listen to the radio to get the actual chart information, then before the internet you could only see it on Ceefax! Now you could check the chart any time on the internet, listen to the show anytime on the internet and even flick through music video channels and it gets played most days!, so I bet that helped take the shine off the traditional Sunday rundown.

I've compiled a mix for the car and mobile which takes only the very best, catchiest pop songs of all the NOWs and more, so it has the effect of a very hot radio mix, found this more addictive to listen to than music radio stations so it works.

Makes me LOL people still buy now albums. Are they really incapable of making their own playlist in this day and age?

I'm also 34 so let's see how our tastes compare. I will put these songs into three categories; Love, Like, Hate...

Love (** = downloaded on iTunes, // plan on downloading next week)

Ellie Goulding - Love my like you do**
Wiz Khalifa Ft Charlie Puth - See you Again**
Little mix - Black magic**
Tinie Tempah ft Jess Glynne - Not letting go
Major Lazer ft DJ Snake - Lean on**
Years and Years - Shine**
Walk the Moon - Shut up and dance**
John newman - Come and get it //
Florence + the machine - Ship to wreck
Kygo feat. Conrad Sewell - Firestone**
Galantis - Runaway ( U & I)**
Skrillex & Diplo with Justin Bieber - Where are you now
Clean Bandit - Stronger**
Martin Garrix Ft. Usher - Don't look down

Like (these range from songs I think are ok, to songs I'm not really fussed over but still tolerate)

Omi - Cheerleader
Jason Derulo - Want to want me
Nick Jonas - Jealous
Ed Sheeran & Rudimental - Bloodstream
Meghan Trainor - Dear Future Husband
Iggy Azalea ft Jennifer Hudson - Trouble
Jessie J - Flashlight
James Bay - Let it go
Hozier - someone new
Lost Frequencies - Are you with me
David Guetta Ft Nicki Minaj - Hey Mama
Flo Rida Ft. Robin Thicke - I don't like it , I love it
Fifth Harmony ft Kid Ink - Worth It
Deorro X Chris Brown - Five more Hours
Lunch Money Lewis - Bills
Blonde feat. Alex Newell - All cried out
Kygo feat Parson James - Stole the show
Rudimental Ft. Foy Vance - Never let you go
Dr. Kucho - Can't stop playing
Lethal bizzle feat. Distortion - Fester Skank
Tove lo - Talking body

Hate

Aston Merrygold - Get stupid (JLS were great in 2009, everything since has got worse and worse)

Rita Ora - Poison (I mean, what is this song all about? It sounds like a car crash to me, and they stole the bendy synth line from I Love It so loses marks for plagiarism)

Natalie Rose ft Jeremiah - Somebody (of all the Whitney Houston songs to rip off, they choose one of the most iconic and recognised classics from the 80s)

Carly Rae Jepson - I really like you (I really really really really really really find this embarrassing and I also liked Call Me Maybe)

David Zowie - House every weekend (because of those atrocious vocals...SHISH KEBAB!!! )

Krept and Konan Ft. jeremiah - Freak of the week (maybe this IS because of my age but I don't "get" this)

Avicii - Waiting for love (this is what happens when artists believe their own hype, and start churning out any old garbage and think it'll do well because of who they are)

Sam Feldt feat. Kimberly Anne - Show me Love (because it's so dreary to listen too)

Pep & Rash - Rumours (because, like Treasured Soul, these recent dance hits with low pitched vocals have baffled me completely - what is the actual skill?). It's certainly no better or worse than the dance music I produce. Where's my record contract with Spinnin' Records? Oh yeah...I don't have rich parents funding my career.

My taste in music has always been eclectic, ranging from dance anthems to big ballads to mid-tempo pop songs. If I like the sound of the song then that's good enough for me. Those songs in my "hate" list are woeful imo. The type of songs I genuinely don't get what makes them popular - in some cases it's probably the artist name alone that's selling the song but you can't polish a turd.
