I watched one early this evening featuring Angels final episode and it was a nice reminder of what a very enjoyable pleasant show it once was. Perfect for that time of evening.
Just a lot of nice normal characters you cared about doing simple everyday stuff. Eventually the gangstas moved in and killed the show for me.

Alas about 10 years ago they realized they could build higher ratings in Australia for the pay offs to murder plots & other whodunits, and at that point the show you describe was gone.

Still I guess Neighbours proved standing still gets you nowhere, so I can see why they did it.

Today's episode was rather emotional. Seeing Angel leave. It got me down actually. As nowadays I couldn't care less for most characters on Home and away and wouldn't shed a tear if they left. Unless it was Marilyn or Irene. Why can't they create characters that are likeable now? Home and away has really gone down hill for me.

They want to appeal to young Australians so they go for good looking kids and sensationalism rather than likeability and decent story lines. I think it lost one of its best characters in Dr Sid Walker - I still miss him.

Right at the end when Angel was leaving in the car we saw a lovely little scene with Shannon and Selena. They looked at eachother then gently elbowed eachother and smiled. So real and heartwarming.
