This one irritated me the first time round and still irritates me on the repeats of The Link:
Question: "What EIGHT letter word is given to a chess move whereby a piece is given up in order to gain future advantage?" Contestant 1: "CHECKMATE ...? Oh - it's not 8 letters" Contestant 2: "SACRIFICE?" So two of them managed to give an answer that didn't meet the length requirement specified ... the kicker here being that contestant 2's answer was accepted as correct! Then in the same show, "What am I? I have 11 platforms ...[other clues pointing to London King's Cross station, which is accepted as the answer]" King's Cross has 12 platforms, numbered 0-11, and has done so since 2010 - several years before the show was recorded. "All information correct at time of recording" it says at the end, too .... |

Some of those pub quiz teams that get on Eggheads to take them on are absolutely pitiful. It's like Charles Hawtrey taking on a MMA fighter at times. Lambs to the slaughter. most of them. The challengers need to be of a much higher standard because the Eggheads, whether you like them or not, are the best of the best.

Watching one of the five year old repeats of Eggheads the other day, the question was something like "Which organisation rebranded itself with the slogan Putting Humans First in 2008 (or whenever)". After some debate the challengers came up with "Is it Lucozade?" Answer, Amnesty International. I am amazed JV and the Eggs kept a straight face.

Years ago, on a daft quiz/game programme that I can't recall the name of but included a character called Dusty Bin, a couple were given the following clues to help them name a composer
1. Born in (year), he was German but was naturalized British 2. He became the court composer to King (can't recall which) 3. He's most famous for his Christmas oratorio, The Messiah The woman turned to the man and asked "Who wrote Handel's Messiah?" He replied "Chopin?" They didn't win. |

The correct answer is, of course, nobody. The PM is selected on a one person, one vote basis, and that person is the Queen.
