Sick of hearing the same questions over and over, what year were the moon landings? People still don't know! What do they teach in schools I wonder.
12 men have walked on the moon, another fact for quizzers!!

This one irritated me the first time round and still irritates me on the repeats of The Link:

Question: "What EIGHT letter word is given to a chess move whereby a piece is given up in order to gain future advantage?"

Contestant 1: "CHECKMATE ...? Oh - it's not 8 letters"

Contestant 2: "SACRIFICE?"

So two of them managed to give an answer that didn't meet the length requirement specified ... the kicker here being that contestant 2's answer was accepted as correct!
Contestant 2's answer was the correct one. The fault was with the question setter who miscounted the number of letters. Surprised that got through.

Daft it may be but at least it's a guess. I wouldn't have thought the correct answer was particularly obvious unless you'd seen it in the news or wherever.
You'd hardly use the designation organisation to refer to Lucozade, though, would you? The way the question was worded it was quite obvious it was an entity like Amnest International, Oxfam or something similar. Lucozade for crying out loud....

The public may vote but only the queen can confirm someone as PM. Winning the vote is just for show in a way
Hmm, fair enough. Good luck with arguing your case with that one on the show though!

Technically correct, but in reality it's the Queen's confirmation that is pretty much just for show. The democratic vote is what counts. The Queen asks the winning leader if they can form a government, and if so says "go 'ed then". (Or words to that effect. )

On The Link today the first clue was something like "their natural habitat was Mauritius" followed by a clue about first being spotted by sailors in a certain year. The guy had to overrule his partner who wanted to say "mermaid". It was the Dodo.

I saw this, when her partner told her that mermaids aren't real she said 'yeah but there have still been confirmed sightings of them though' 😅

Years ago, on a daft quiz/game programme that I can't recall the name of but included a character called Dusty Bin, a couple were given the following clues to help them name a composer

1. Born in (year), he was German but was naturalized British
2. He became the court composer to King (can't recall which)
3. He's most famous for his Christmas oratorio, The Messiah

The woman turned to the man and asked "Who wrote Handel's Messiah?"

He replied "Chopin?"

They didn't win.
Even funnier was when it was passed over to the other team, they answered "Beethoven"

On the subject of the Moon landings,a tricky question few people will get right is:

"Who was the third man on the Moon?"

I heard that asked on 15 to 1. Everybody knows (or should know) the first two,but the third's a lot harder. I didn't know it. The guy on 15 to 1 said Michael Collins (which is not a stupid answer),but he was the man left in the command module orbiting the Moon while Armstrong and Aldrin were on the surface. He never actually set foot on the Moon.

The third man on the Moon was Pete Conrad, who commanded the Apollo 12 mission in November 1969.

Apart from the first two,the names of the twelve men who have walked on the Moon are not well known.

For quizzers, it's definitely worth remembering that the last was Gene Cernan, too (that is, he was the last to leave, although he was 11th of the 12).

About 70 years too late but I dont think its that silly an answer. I mean, its easy to perhaps mix up an actress with a novel character (Moll Flanders also became a film and TV miniseries) especially if youre not too familliar with the era. (It should be Nell Gwyn)

Silly answer, but having said that, apart from say,a watch,or jewellery,I'm struggling to think of many sensible answers.

On that subject,I remember seeing a scam they used to operate in London around the big shopping streets like Oxford Street. They may still do.

A bloke sets up a quick stall on a box in the street and lays out some jewellery. His sales pitch is simple:

"Come on,get here now,it's nicked. We've got to get rid of it quick before the Old Bill sees us." It would be offered at cheap prices and there were no shortage of buyers, thinking they were getting a bargain.

But of course they weren't. The jewellery wasn't nicked,it was cheap counterfeit. The idea that it was genuine jewellery that was stolen was an invention by the seller. And anyone buying it could hardly have any complaint, since they were effectively buying what they thought were stolen goods.

And that answer is probably correct.

However, was the question not "read"?

If so, it's a very poorly written/ambiguous question.

Not correct in the context of the show it's not. And no, it was red according to the onscreen text.

Top answer was "Postbox" if I recall correctly.
