A one from Hot Seat. Something like this...

What is the alternative name for Sasquach that is said to roam the North West American woods?

A) Loch Ness Monster
B) Abomibmal Snowman
C) Big Foot
D) Cyclops

The contestant, who was a Zoooligist, passed the question.
I can never understand why people pass on a multiple choice question, surly it's worth a guess.

In Hot Seat, if you guess and get it wrong, you are out. If you pass, you may get another chance.
Passing in Hot Seat can be tacticly the correct thing to do.

Ah right, I've never watched Hot Seat, in fact to be honest I've not heard of it, so didn't know about that rule, but I have seen passes on MC questions on other quiz shows.

On Tipping Point today Ben Shephard asks this dizzy, blonde bimbo from Wales who was the monarch that the Victorian Era was named after......she passed. She got a question right about The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, though.

To be fair, not everyone knows they are different things.

One of the most famous urban myths though.
The Abominable Snowman or yeti is the Asian version in the snow whereas Big Foot is the North Ameican forrest dweller.

Don't school kids learn about these myths and legends?

On today's episode of The Chase one of the questions was which language a composer's opera (I think it Wagner but can't remember the opera) was originally in. The man's answer was 'Austrian'...

So that's the wrong answer, but in what way was it a stupid one?

There's no such language as Austrian. German is the official language of Austria

Well, yeah. Yeti=Abominable Snowman, Big Foot=Sasquatch. But I think a lot of people see the four terms as interchangable, so if they're present in a multiple choice question, would be easy for someone under pressure to get muddle.

So that's the wrong answer, but in what way was it a stupid one?
I wouldn't know it, I'd guess German though.

I see what you mean - I hadn't thought of that. So it is a stupid answer.

Wrong but not that stupid to be honest under time pressure. Especially when a quarter is 25%.

Tipping point, 28th Sept.

Q: In which Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical does a train set come to life?

A: Oliver

Suppose it is at least a musical, so not utterly bad. She could've passed it over to the other contestant who would have said "Midnight Express" which was wrong, but quite close to the correct "Starlight Express"

'Tipping Point' really is a splendidly rich source for silly answers.
It's a bit like a quiz show for people who want to do a quiz but can't answer quiz questions.
I have got past being annoyed at the contestants being stumped by easy questions and I'm afraid I have to admit I now actually enjoy watching the contestants struggle with them.
Tee hee.

And before someone feels the need to state the obvious and say 'it's not a quiz show as the main part of the game is chance in dropping the counters' or some thing along those lines - Yes I know that. That is why I put the 'a bit like' in the first part of my post.

Disagree.

Everyone knows that Aled Jones recorded a song about the Abominable Snowman but he never recorded one about Big Foot.

Unintentionally funny answers that seem very apposite
Tipping Point. ' What does a chronometer measure?'
1st contestant: Earthquakes
2nd contestant : I would have said Thickness.

See my post above. And - chronograph, chronometer...? At least one of these chortling posts hasn't even quoted the question accurately!

Have a go at what, going back in time, and watching the Tipping Point episode to get the quote correct?
