It's possibly not the most stupid answer but given her position, I was astonished at that answer.

Ah, that profession has a reputation for not knowing seemingly well known things. I remember a number of comedy shows who've made fun of that!

On Pointless today (it's a repeat though) the question asked for a country beginning with B, A or D and the woman came up with Anghora - okay I know it's similar to Andorra but she ummed and aahed first - she could have just said Australia.

Not a stupid answer as such, but Edward Munch/The Scream questions come up on quiz shows all the time.
If a question starts, "Which Norwegian artist...", the answer will be Edvard Munch. Every time. Look at the list of famous Norwegian artists on Wikipedia. How many of the others have you even heard of? My score was none. If a question starts , "Which Edvard Munch painting", the answer will be The Scream. It's one of the most famous paintings in the world. People voluntarily going on quiz shows should have heard of it at least. But often people get these wrong. They're really just giving away easy points. If things come up all the time, you should be making an effort to learn them. |

Guy on Tipping Point today thought constabulary referred to someone in the ambulance service and that aborigine was the religion associated with Haile Selassie.

Just as if it's a Scottish poet, it will be Robbie Burns and a welsh poet will be Dylan Thomas.

"Which Mexican artist ...?" is pretty much Frida Kahlo every time, too.

I can just imagine someone at Only Connect looking up the names of other Edvard Munch paintings if they read this thread, or some Norwegian painters - there are quite a number!
Sequence of Puberty, Madonna, Ashes, The Scream ? I watched it a few weeks ago and there was one (I forget what order they were in): The Plague,The Stranger (I think),The Fall and The Myth of Sisyphus. I might add they didn't make it as "easy" as to just put those titles up,they put up pictures from which you had to work out what the titles were. Neither of the teams got the connection. They're all...works by Albert Camus. Of course they are, fancy me not noticing that... And all that hieroglyphics stuff,I mean what's that about? Couldn't just call the questions one to six,no we'll call them all hieroglyphs instead, that'll look much more intellectual. |
