I watched an old episode of fifteen to one on Challenge this morning
Q)/On the 28th May 1588, the Spanish Armada set sail from which port? A) Tilbury Fair enough not everyone would know Lisbon is the correct answer but Essex is a pretty bad guess! |

I'd have said Cadiz, so kudos to you.
Edit: Oh, no kudos after all. It sailed from A Coruņa in Spain according to Wikipedia. At least I got the right country . I think the clue was it was the Spanish Armada.

This woman is the most ignorant about Geography that I've ever seen.
Listen to her ignorance, as she tries to think of where Budapest is the Capital of. Even the little boy, who is there to help her, is laughing at how stupid she is:, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8pnec4Hxps Plus - the show's presenter can't even pronounce the name of the Country properly. NOtE -- She did win the $25,000 for that question. The little boy had got it right for her... |

Mary Ann Hobbs on Celebrity Mastermind just now.
'Which former member of the Beatles collaborated on Liverpool Oratorio with the American composer Carl Davids, first performed in 1991?' 'John Lennon?' She is a DJ. |

To be fair to Mary Ann, they were all pretty awful. How the hell can the BBC have the nerve to call this Celebrity Mastermind?

True, the only one I had heard of was Johnny Ball. Pity he went into panic mode, fell apart and fluffed many questions that he almost certainly would have know the answer to.
To win Mastermind with a score of 16 is just ridiculous. |

To win Mastermind you have to beat dozens of the best quizzers in the country, to win Celebrity Mastermind you only have to beat three other people who are not very good at quizzing. |

Johnny Ball is only 77, so not old. |

On Friday's Tipping Point one of the semi finalists was asked "What is a male elephant called?". She didn't know so passed it to the male semi finalist. His answer was "A Tudor".

Private Eye has this week
What sport was Jocky Wilson best know for? Tennis Maybe the contestant had heard of Wilson racquets and thought he was someone from a bygone era. This one was better Football World Cup scorers We all know a bit about football....We'll go for Gary Lineker, David Platt and Maradona - is he English? |

They didn't win Mastermind, they won Celebrity Mastermind which requires a far far lower level of quizzing ability.

So tennis was the wrong answer, but why was it a stupid one? Watching a quiz this week, one question was about a golf competition, and my answer was the davis cup. It turned out I was wrong.

Was the question English/England World Cup Scorers as you have not mentioned that English/England was in the question, you've only put 'Is He English?' after Maradona's name. Without knowing what the full question is how would we know that Maradona was a wrong or stupid answer?
Football World Cup Final Scorers Although if someone claimed to know about football, I'd expect them to know Maradona is Argentinian. |

As a player who played in 2 World Cup Finals I would have said Diego Maradona was a reasonable guess for a World Cup Final goalscorer tbh
