Does singing Back Home on Top of the Pops in 1970 make him a famous singer as well? 😁

I agree with that, if there was a winning answer for this thread then yours would certainly be in the running.
When idiots try to excuse their ignorance by saying "It was before my time" how do they think people who are older than them know things without the ability of time travel?

They may as well say that they didn't know that such things as books existed, or documentary films. Maybe they'd think books were before their time.
It's an even more astoundingly stupid answer because right now it's never been easier to access information because of the internet.
Maybe when you make thing easier for people there's a strange phenomenon which takes place at the same time where people become more stupid?

I think you might be surprised.

Ah, I see that the poster said county, not country. But still, I think there are a lot of people out there who actually do think Africa is a country.

Pretty much anything he has done in public makes him famous and doing it, but maybe not famous for doing it.

Technically this could never be posted in the right thread, or it would be self contradictory.

Why not? There are millions of people who think america is a country.

If you have not already done so, I suggest you watch the film "Idiocracy"

Sorry, but in general America IS considered in quiz shows to be a country and has been accepted as a correct answer.

While USA (or United States of America) could be seen as the formal answer for the countries name, "America" is acceptable usage.

Continent wise America would be a wrong answer as there are 2 American continents North and South.

Funny film, based on the short story "the march of the morons" by Cyril M. Kornbluth

Yes I've seen it. I love that film.

It probably makes sense that if you do make things easier for people then perhaps it has a tendency to encourage them to take the path of least resistance and not think as much?

I thought for a moment they had picked up this thread!

What is the capital of Africa? See woman's hilarious geography fail when quizzed by boyfriend

Obviously not very bright if she doesn't mind being humiliated in public by her boyfriend.

When I used to put quizzes on, I always avoided questions to which the answer was 'the US' or 'The Netherlands'.

He does say that she is good at problem solving. I am sure there are many who can easily win quizzes with a brain full of useless facts but are unable to solve the simplest problem.

It depends, usually called one continent. If split in North and South then what about Central America and then the Caribbean. It soon gets silly with a dozen or so 'continents' rather than the original five.

North and South America are generally regarded as separate continents, though some count the Americas as just one. The Caribbean and Central America are usually counted as part of North America.

North and South America are separate continents not one continent. Central America is part of North America it is not a separate continent.

The Caribbean is usually considered part of North America.

Panama is part of Central America but it used to be part of Colombia which is in South America. How does that work?

Another gem from today's "1000 Heartbeats" show today, porkpie:
True or False: Origami is a herb
The contestant answered "True".

Coincidentally, in a "Herbs" picture round on yesterday's Pointless, 100 people were surveyed, shown a picture of some oregano and asked to identlfy it, a sizable number said "origami".

Again , not stupid. Just mistaking oregano for origami. About time this thread was closed...the "I know everything and therefore everyone else is stupid" theme is now boring.

Actually, according to Richard, only 1 person said "origami" - not really a sizable number

I think in a high pressure setting, mixing up 'oregano' and 'origami' is acceptable.

Panama actually straddles both continents!

"The Isthmus of Panama, also historically known as the Isthmus of Darien, is the narrow strip of land that lies between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, linking North and South America."
