North and South America are one continent, one of the 5 [excluding Antarctica]

Opinions appear to differ on this!

"North America and South America are treated as separate continents in the seven-continent model. However, they may also be viewed as a single continent known as America or the Americas. "

The 5 Olympic Rings represent the 5 continents, America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia.

There are seven surely?

You don't approve of how the thread is used so rather than just not clicking on it anymore you want it closed? DS is an odd place at times.

That's hardly definitive.

There are different models in place but the standard one used in the UK is 7 continents. Rationally Europe and Asia would be counted as one continent before North And South America so if you don't go for 7 continents 5 makes more sense than 6 (America, Africa, Eurasia, Antarctica and Australia).

Whatever model you use Central America is still part of North America.

Surely at the outset the point of the thread was to identify clearly stupid answers, it has now degenerated into into arguments about what is a stupid answer...and if you read most of it, it becomes apparent that most people consider a stupid answer as the one they knew and the one being questioned didnt. Pretentious, moi?

Not really a stupid answer if you dont know about movies and it was only a True or False question, imo.

I have actually seen situations where someone has been given a true or false option and passed.

Now that really is dozy.

Except for half of Panama perhaps!

I think there is politics involved, look at which system is used by which countries in the Wonkypedia article.

(Goes off to Google who the director was.)

Edit: Actually, I thought it might be a film about the Dune trilogy.

Yes it's all down to different definitions. There are several countries that are included in either North or South America or both. Panama is listed as either North or both and similarly Trinidad and Tobago is sometimes split and sometimes not.

She was obviously thinking of the bloke that directed Spiceworld. (See three posts ago.)

Slightly worse idea from the same team - a word with three consecutive vowels. "Parlay".

Another man yesterday was asked where on the body you would find your 6 pack. He said chest.

Or indeed a Rugby World Cup venue V**** P***.

Valley Park.

Ok - I understand them not knowing Villa Park but how were they spelling "Vally"?

Well, I have no idea of the answer to that question. I'd probably have guessed Park for the second word, but I'd have been lost on the first word. Does that make me stupid, or simply ignorant?

Fair enough about Panama, but T & T would surely be classed the same way as any other Caribbean nation?

Agreed, Even as a huge football fan my mind never went near Villa Park so i also would have gotten park but the first word would have possibly caught me out

The spelling of Valley though is poor on the contestants part

To be honest that's not massively stupid. Saying Henry VIII would have been stupid.
