Does Nick have a tic, or is he picking nits?

Hi everybody ! Keeping up with BB from Oz via YouTube and lovin' your comments. I'm up to May 23.

What's with Nick constantly picking at his eyelids, eyelashes, nose, lips, raking his fingers through his hair...
He looks agitated and distracted in a lethargic kinda way.

Just sayin'

He seems a bag of nerves to me, still at least the amount of movement he does is getting him some exercise.

He went into overdrive yesterday when he was giving his nominations. I don't blame him for being anxious, but I thought he'd be bald by the end of it the way he was pulling at his hair.

A lot of them are emotionally incontinent this year, I quite like it. It's more entertaining than the shiny teeth, shiny hair, always-on showbiz wannabe brigade.

So true.

I find it endearing and perfectly natural. My little man (7) had to stand up in front of a hall full of people recently and he started blinking, winking and clearing his throat loudly. That was a couple of months ago and he hasn't done it since. These are nervous tics and a very great deal of shy people have them. I do the rubbing the nose thing myself and it irritates the hell out of me that people say he's picking his nose. He really isn't; he's touching it/rubbing it because of his nerves. Leave 'im alone!!

I think he has ticks and twitches due to anxiety. He doesn't do it when he is comfortable with people.

Aww the wee soul. My son used to get stomach cramp and literally become ill when it came to having to participate in school plays. He'd be remarkably recovered after the school went in and I kept him off school. It took me a long time to discover the cause of his anxiety. So yes, I sympathise completely.

It's awful seeing them so wound up, isn't it? My 10 year old son is the same. He regularly decides at the doorstep that he has stomach cramps. My sources tell me he's fine once he's on the bus and/or at school. They have anxiety, both of them - as do I. It's completely illogical and very difficult to control and it's exasperating my anxiety seeing theirs; because I think it's completely my fault. It's partly genetic, I'd imagine, but it's also learnt behaviour. My mother and several of my siblings have tics and anxiety and we're all hypochondriacs! Don't know how we all weren't locked up long ago

Ouch! That's a bit of a mean way of putting it, but I suppose that's what I am too. It's a medically recognized issue, though, that level of anxiety and it's probably why Nick is and always has been my favourite. I don't think it's in anyway put on and I think it's beyond his control and I think the BB pressure cooker is putting him under enormous pressure; as is having to nominate face to face.

I think it is a bit mean to constantly target a housemate over nervous ticks. I know from experience that these things are hard to control. You can't stop the actions unless he can tackle the nerves and doing face to face nominations is one of the worst positions he can be in. the poor boy will have a stomach ulcer by the time he is finished with all the nerves in there.

There seems to be a lot of these threads targeting Nicks ticks, what is with that?

It's a bit ignorant, to be fair - and I mean that literally, not in a derogatory way. If you've never known anyone with uncontrollable nervous tics it probably looks very weird and OTT. He can't help it. I genuinely believe that.

It might be mild Tourette's syndrome.

I completely agree. Lack of understanding I think. If it had been said he had Tourette's for example would people be more tolerant? Anxiety is very real and something many of us have suffered from.

if he has anxiety and is a bag of nerves... fair play to him for going on the show, attacking the problem head on..

it is quite funny to watch though

Exactly, if he had gone in with a named condition nothing would be mentioned at all.
