last year you had murder week and was pulling in over 9m an episode and this week was being billed as a very exciting week and normally when sandwiched between bgt it normally pulls in big viewers, so why is it failing to even get over 8m on live showings, Corrie never normally fail to pull in the figures for a big week, so what has made this week fail....so far

Oh and before anyone jumps on my case this is not me criticising Or slagging off Corrie just a simple question

Corrie has been terrible for ages so it's no surprise that its ratings haven't shot up. Tbf BGT is also down which may be having an impact.

I think Tina's murder caught public imagination more. Personally I thought it was poorly executed, I could not overlook her stupidity in running out on that balcony and then virtually begging Rob to throw her over and finish her off on the ground. But others loved it and there was more casual interest surrounding it than Tracy's bi-polar behaviour.

At the time Corrie had only been in SB's clutches for a year/just over a year as well. It was on a hiding to nothing but hadn't yet hit rock bottom. Since then he's completed another full year in charge...

I think it has a lot to do with how they reveal every excruciating detail of storylines months / weeks in advance. There's no suspense or surprise, no real reason for people to tune in if they've read the articles or seen the trailers. Tina's death was the same.

Speaking for myself it's because I don't care about the characters anymore and the direction the show is going in.

I'm not that fussed on the characters that all seem to be involved. Apart from Carla.

Like what's already being mentioned I don't think it helps when pretty much everything is revealed already weeks before. It hasn't been that amazing so far and apart from the time slot it just seems to me like a normal week.

Like Willow said, we already know what happens so there is not much point.

I've liked it this week. Great characters like Tracy, Carla & Leanne involved.

The reason why it's not bringing in viewers? Simple.

Blackburn has driven a lot of viewers away with ill thought out storylines and months of nothing. It's picking up again now, but da fire is hardly going to make figures rise & rise in 2015. Maybe 10 years ago, or even 5, but not these days. Corrie lacks character driven drama and imagination these days. There's no hype or buzz around it. It's all a bit flat, and not that many people are bothered. The show relies far too much on stunts IMO. (The tram crash for the 50th, the Rovers fire, the mini bus crash which was awful, and now this).

People have seen it all before? it seems like they have a big fire every year, can they not think of anything else?

It's been dull, hasn't even seemed like a big week, just normal eps...

Because 1 week doesn't make up for 12 months of crap.

As a former viewer (mostly), I just don't really care about any of the characters apart from Carla. And we basically know who's going to die. I'm desperate to read on DS that Corrie actually pulled off a shock move and killed someone we didn't expect but it's not happening.

Corrie needs a cull rebuild new characters, new families, classic storylines.

It's gained a million on last week but I would imagine due to the time its on, being school hols and people being away that there will be an increase in people sky+ ing it, watching the repeats or on i player or just waiting for the omnibus.

I think a million is good considering nothing has happened yet, the rest of the week will probably see bigger increases.

wonder if BGT figures are down on last year or if corrie is just not holding the audience

To add just looked at the BGT figures they were on 7.8 million so ITV are just keeping a constant audience.

A couple of thoughts:

- many people (on here) don't seem to realise that it's on every night this week. If committed soap followers don't realise, then I imagine that fact has passed the casual viewer by

- the minibus crash was hyped to the heavens, but then turned out to be something and nothing. Perhaps people believe the fire will be the same?

I also agree with the many posters who say that Corrie give too much away.

The storyline leading up to it isn't strong enough. The Tracy/Tony/Liz stuff is more of a 'medium' storyline, rather than a 'big' storyline and I think it shows.

Personally I find `disaster` storylines boring and annoying - we get far too many of them for one neighbourhood - it becomes ridiculous. It`s just covering up for lazy storywriting. They seem to think the viewers enjoy a nail biting disaster - well here`s one who doesn`t.

The only shock so far has been the fact Amy is sleeping at Carla's. But Corrie chickened out of it & a candle has caused the fire, so Tracy will get all the sympathy & Carla will get all the stick for it because everyone thinks she's irresponsible etc.

I do agree the show relies on stunts far too much. Bus Crash for the NTA's, let down by poor acting, only characters I cared about were Carla, Tracy & Steve. But no one died so that was another let down.

We were told who is dying in the fire, how it starts, & who's at risk even before it is aired. I really dislike the 'previews' at the end of the episode too.

And the fact that this feels like the millionth fire Corrie had in the last five years as well... they've even included that in some of their promo.

This! Tina's storyline is when I stopped watching after almost 20 years.

I agree with a lot of the points and I really think Corrie need more surprises like what DTC does with Eastenders. There needs to be more shocks to get people talking about the soap and writers thinking outside of the box. I'm not mentioning Eastenders to start a slanging off thread I like both but I think they do the surprise aspect better out of the two.

After a lifetime watching Corrie, (I was brought up on it and I am 54 this year), I stopped watching it regularly about a year or so ago and dipped in and out for the odd episode, if it came on and had nothing else to watch, I have been watching it this week and it doesn't feel like I have missed a great deal, as I feel like I have picked up from where I left off.
