''what card are you thinking of'' x4 instead of saying what's your card

To be fair, I would be too if I were in his place.

I feel bad for him. He did seem nervous and quite a few things seemed to go wrong.
Added to it being pretty standard stuff made for a weak act. He dropped a card which made it even more obvious that the cards the judges got did not require the pack. What if it was the one with helicopter that fell? He did keep saying "what are you thinking of?" instead of "what is on your card?". I think this was an attempt to subtly con the viewers. If they had not questioned him and David just said goldfish some viewers would subconsciously feel like he had produced something that David was just thinking. Obviously they know there were cards but it would work. But didn't. To continue with that confusion became very sloppy along with other stumbles. He obviously forced the cards on to them. Cut the pack etc. was diversion. The way it went made it so obvious! Someone posted a pic showing you could see an empty shoe beside his foot at one point. This was not his fault although it does add to the problems. Just before the reveal the curtain twitched noticeably and there was a bit of black sheet stuck to propeller which suggests the helicopter had a sheet torn off but it didn't come off fully. This part took far too long and the stalling with the line under the question mark, not to mention the pointlessness of the question mark anyway added nothing (except time). All with him starting nervous and getting worse. Then Simon showing that no one had in the audience had written helicopter! Poor guy.

It was Mark Selby trying out for a new career, wasn't it?
I thought he was great, even though Cowell tried to ruin it. |

In the final, Prince Harry should turn up in the helicopter.

So did he win the public vote out of sympathy or were the voting public genuinely impressed?

It was such an obvious trick - I don't know how he got through.

I can't believe people were so impressed by an average trick

I thought he was alright.
Does anyone else think he looks a little bit like Blake Harrison? (Neil from the inbetweeners) |

I think they must have been impressed. Basically a helicopter is big which must make it seem wow.

I love magicians but I did think that Jamie's act was disappointing, for the reasons mentioned above. I doubt anyone would have written "goldfish" - but they are something that magicians often produce. And the embarrassment when Simon asked who had written helicopter! But I hope Jamie does better in the final.

Fool Us where they have to guess how a series of magicians have done their trick. A guy had given raffle tickets to the audience then asked Penn to pick a ball from a bowl and it had a number. Someone in the audience had that ticket then he did the rest of the trick. At the end the guy with the ticket was actually the magician who had been performing the trick via a video screen. Anyway at the end Penn started picking out more balls and shouting out more numbers asking who had the ticket. After a few balls with silence from the audience it was obvious. Simon doing that had a similar impact of "pulling the curtain back". Although his role was of course not to explain how he had done the trick. |

How the hell did he win the night, it must have been a sympathy vote. He seems like a nice guy, but has zero stage presence and as has already been mentioned, his act was far from flawless last night. I was so bored when he started that I fastforwarded through it and didn't intend watching him at all. I only played it back to see the mistakes he made after reading about them on twitter. He needs to pull something out of the bag if he wants to have a chance of winning on final night.

Why WOULD Simon ask about the helicopter. Was he trying to screw it up on purpose.

Maybe he's just a bit gullible or extremely naive regarding magic acts. Normally magicians can control how much people say to avoid those kind of things but in this scenario that is difficult since they all love to talk so much and frankly think they are the real stars of the show anyway. Which arguably they are.

and did he drop a card at the beginning? I didn't think he was very good on the night to be honest. You could also see the chunk of ice in his hands as he was faffing about with it during the pause before he produced the reveal. |

All BGT viewers know that you're supposed to vote for the last act. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAR_WSDaV9w at 2:11 when the magician asks simon what the word on his card says why does simon say "Its simon" ![]() Did this confuse anyone else or did Simon just say it by accident? |
