Did the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode change you?

I'm wondering about the impact of the anniversary. We debated the episode long enough at the time, what was good, what wasn't. Now, in the light of time gone by, if anyone felt it changed their view of the show at all?

I've been a Doctor Who fan for ages, but that only meant I watched the show religiously and used to read the books when I was v small But, in the lead up to the 50th, I started reading fan sites, I joined this forum, I got caught up in the excitement of guessing/predicting the story line, I changed the background of my laptop to a TARDIS. I felt more comfortable behaving like a fan of Doctor Who. I also noticed a lot more activity then and since then on the Web, youtube etc. I even decided to start re-watching from the beginning.

Anyone had similar changes?

Being in a cinema surrounded by Doctor Who fans enjoying themselves after months of wading through complaints about trailers and Comic Con restored my faith in fandom having become very deflated with the whole thing

(To an even greater degree did the Cardiff S8 premiere - between Canadian, German and Japanese fans with Mr. Capaldi standing in front of me - that's a special "it isn't all bad" moment)

Looking back on it there wasn't nearly enough time war as the trailers and previews would make you believe

And rose not actually being rose was a dissapointment.

Also it's clear as anything the war doctor was supposed to be 9 with a last minute veer off course to a new doctor when Chris said no.

And Moffat has no idea how to write the 10th doctor who came off a the dimmest and lothario-ist of all the doctors involved.

Aside from that I did enjoy it, honest

Change my life,? Nah, but it was nice for the country to be as obsessed with the doctor as I am for a while

I enjoyed the other stuff more than day of the doctor. The fiveish doctors reeboot, an adventure in space and time, night of the doctor, the culture show special with Michael sweet. The special was a bit of a let down, the weakest of the "trilogy". It should have been the mcgann doctor who instead of hurt. Tennant looked uneasy returning to the role. A bit like the five doctors too much chucked in.

Did it change me? No..not at all, not sure how a TV programme would or could.

The episode itself I thought for the most was rather good. Matt Smith is brilliant in it and the chemistry between him and David Tennant on screen was by far the highlight.

The Time War scenes were extremely well done, wonderfully so in places. I thought The Moment was a superb concept as was the 3D painting. The Zygon side story worked well in places as a link up story but the Queen Elizabeth angle became rather dull quickly.

I'm still in two minds over the rewriting of the whole Time War/Gallifrey destruction even though I understand, and ultimately agree with why it was done in terms of moving the show forward. I just think it was a bit slap dash. I felt that the actual red button moment lacked the passion and the emotional context it deserved. It is moments like this the differences between RTD and Steven Moffat are apparent. Under RTD it would have been a gut wrenching moment with all three Doctors at their lowest point (and no doubt the button would still have been pressed by all three Doctors) I feel Mr. Moffat never got to the core of the importance of that moment and it came across more as the Doctors deciding what toppings to have on their pizza.

The 'All Thirteen of them' is truly a great moment in the show's history.

Whilst John Hurt on screen is always an irrepressible joy the actual War Doctor as a character could not help but have that 'rewrite' feel to it.

Those criticisms aside on the whole I thought it was worthy of the hype and worthy of being the 50th.

But it didn't change me no.

Sounds about right to me. I mean, okay, we've got used to some of that goofiness being more suited to Eleven, we don't think of Ten being that unobservant, but he only really had a few moments of silliness, that were kind of needed at that point in the story. And let us not forget than Ten had plenty moments like that in his tenure, not written by Moffat.

And I think he proved he really nailed the differences in the 'dungeon' scene - Ten's moral outrage contrasted nicely with Eleven's attempts to move on.

Aye. That was a gorgeous little scene that summed up the emotional 'baggage' to both Doctors era.

I suppose looking back Moffat was right doctor who did take over..
It just seemed to be everywhere...
But it was a great year for fandango after the disappointment of the 30th and 40Th..We finally got the return of mcgann..The introduction of capaldi...The return of two lost stories..The brilliant AADITAS..
The ultimate guide..doctors revistited..and the fiveish doctor..
All surviving actors played their part except one...I was at the excel experience and met my future wife there so that's how it affected me..
