Does anyone remember that promo for the launch of Hollyoaks in the US? If I remember right they started it over there with Sam burning down the pub. Wonder if Hollyoaks now has a cult American fan base

Oh yeh, I remember that - Chris and Carly did the promo with the who's who of Hollyoaks.

No idea about viewing figures etc. but Hollyoaks has turned into a US soap with all of it's unrealistic plotlines so it would probably do well

I think they chose the wrong time to launch it. It was at the tail end of so many long running stories even the 30 minute catch up didn't really help. I think nowadays it would do better as it's got a lot more of an OTT soap opera feel. Perhaps starting around about a month before the bus crash or around summer 2013 would be a good launching point.

It aired on BBC America, right? It didn't last long on TV until it was shunted to the Internet only. They stopped uploading episodes in 2008.

The show was picked up by Hulu last year, not long after they acquired Neighbours and Home and Away. Hulu never releases figures, so no-one knows how well they're doing.

It launched on Hulu with the episodes around the time of the bus crash, or maybe just a bit before, as I remember Rebecca Black mentioned how it was her new TV obsession on a video of hers or something.

I just read the Hulu description for Hollyoaks.

Hollyoaks is a glossy, fast-paced and engaging drama. Featuring top class acting and witty, evocative writing; the show has constantly raised the bar for teen entertainment.

I mean... I'm just shocked. I had to squint my eyes to make sure it was real what I was reading.

You mean a bad US soap, Hollyaoks can't compare to the US soaps in their glory days. In its current state it reminds me of General Hospital when Bob Guza was head writer, nothing but gangsters, violence and filled with characters no one cares about.

As for Hollyoaks popularity, I figure it must be doing well its been on Hulu for 1.5 years and soon after it was added Neighbours and Home and Away followed.

I don't know if you will be able to watch it being outside of the US but here is the trailer from Hulu.

Then they also had a video with Darren telling the audience all about the characters on the show.

Hollyoaks would do well in America because its basically a US soap set in England.
