If you use coconut oil as an overnight hair treatment, do you just shampoo and condition the next morning as normal?
See what condition it leaves your hair in. You may find that you don't need to condition it anyway. |

I am absolutely mad about the stuff. I'd recommend Nutiva both for quality and price. If anyone here uses it for "erotic massage", as suggested above, keep in mind that oils can break down latex condoms.
If you use it as an overnight hair mask and find it difficult or time-consuming to wash out, try applying the shampoo before even wetting your hair. It seems to help break up the oil beforehand. If anyone is feeling a bit more flush, try monoi oil. It's coconut oil infused with tiare flowers and has a divine fragrance but is a bit more expensive. |

I searched about and thought this was the best value and delivery was very prompt too.

I use coconut oil to whiten my teeth and have been complimented about how white they are (a natural white of course)
I don't use it on my face because it brings me out in spots! It's very heavy oil... I use it on my hair 3-4 times a week, though wash your hair, dry it and then wash it again because oil is difficult to remove from hair and if not done properly, hair will look greasy! |

Coconut oil is a panacea. I have extremely sensitive skin, which can be aggravated a product one day, and okay the next. It was imperative, therefore, that I find something which would never irritate it. Organic, pure virgin coconut oil, is a godsend. After my shower and, intermittently, during the day, I apply it rather sparingly. Since using it, I have not been itching as much.
When I do my skincare regime, I cleanse my skin then, underneath my moisturiser, I apply the coconut oil. My skin has always been good but, using it, has made it's appearance so youthful. I also use it on my boxer's nose, and his ears. |

I prefer my Pro Naturals argan oil leave in hair treatment applied after shampoo and conditioner and it acts as a protectant against heat damage.

I like it for my skin, I use it on my face and knees and elbows. I keep the stuff I use to moisturize separate from the stuff I eat as I don't like the thought of sticking my fingers in a jar and then eating some or cooking with it, lol.
I don't use it on my hair as my hair is naturally quite oily, I'd be afraid it would look worse. ![]() I've tried both refined and unrefined and although the cold-pressed virgin unrefined stuff is supposed to be better, I don't actually like the taste of it. The refined stuff has no flavour or odor and I prefer it. I wish there was a happy medium. |

I bloomin' love coconut oil!
Without being too gross, I broke my big toe about 3 years ago and the nail went black. It then fell off and has been growing back a very horrible colour (a greeny yellowy black - vile). I went to the doctor and she said it was because I had damaged the nail bed and it would "clear up soon." It didn't. Having tried so many over the counter toe remedies, I was ready to give up....and then I discovered coconut oil! Every night I put a dollop of it on my nail and leave it to soak in. I've been doing that for about a week and already I can see a HUGE difference! It's witchcraft, but in a good way! |

Have used coconut oil for years, great for cooking, hair, skin, teeth and gums - very versatile product.

Another use for it....have been trying it out as a deodorant. This warm humid weather has been a good test for it. I keep asking my OH to smell my arm pits and to date it seems to be working really well. I had a slight rash under my arm too and that has gone now.

Well I have to say I think it has helped my hair to be shinier and looking better. The trick is to use it sparingly and not on dry hair. I have used it on my skin too and it's a lovely moisturiser and does not feel too greasy.

GLad I found this thread as I bought 2 little jars of c.o. This morning at a craft stall.
I use Palmers Cocoa butter oil and have done for a couple of years after I've had a shower and it's very good so I look forward to comparing. I am also keen to hear more about using it for tooth whitening. |

I agree, I get better results using coconut oil on damp just washed hair, and use it sparingly (just about to do this now). I use coconut oil when I'm air drying my hair as I find it to be a very good hair nourisher and it effectively keeps my hair moisturised. I don't wash my hair the next day I just put my hair in a pony tail and it's fine, but then, I don't have greasy hair, neither does it leave my hair overly greasy as I don't use too much.

I can only say that I tried swilling it around my mouth for a very short time only and ended up swallowing it too soon. Apparently one has to swill it around for 20 mins! My Indian friends tell me that they just rub the c.o. on their teeth before going to bed - I had a problem with this as well - I could not go to sleep because my teeth felt yuk! Now using Arm & Hammer whitening toothpaste, works well for me. |

have now bought a big jar of organic coconut oil from Holland and Barrett. 20% off.
I've tried the mouthwash with it and you just put about a tspn in your mouth and slosh it around until it turns to liquid. My mouth tasted lovely and fresh afterwards. the woman in H & B was really helpful and told me loads of tips and then said there's a site called 100 uses of coconut oil and I looked on there and they sound very good. |

Update on using as deodorant. Seems to work very well, although I still don't trust it if I am going out somewhere special or if it is very warm. I tend to use it if I am going to be at home or just pottering around the shops and have not had any real reason to doubt it.
My fungal toe nail is hugely improved since I have been using it on that. I thought I would have to go to doctor to get pills for it but if all continues to go well I will not need to. I apply it about 3 times a day which is easy to do in 'sandal weather'. |

My update is on using coconut oil to clean my teeth. I read that if you mix it with baking powder and turmeric it's good. Been using it for about a week and teeth are looking good.
Be very careful with the turmeric though. As the mix goes liquid as you brush I dribbled some down a top .... And wouldn't you know it just HAD to be a new and quite expensive one! Spent all morning getting that out.
