My update is on using coconut oil to clean my teeth. I read that if you mix it with baking powder and turmeric it's good. Been using it for about a week and teeth are looking good.
Be very careful with the turmeric though. As the mix goes liquid as you brush I dribbled some down a top .... And wouldn't you know it just HAD to be a new and quite expensive one! Spent all morning getting that out. ![]() |

Problem is having to swill around in your mouth for 20 mins - I normally end up swallowing!

I use coconut oil to whiten my teeth and have been complimented about how white they are (a natural white of course)
I don't use it on my face because it brings me out in spots! It's very heavy oil... I use it on my hair 3-4 times a week, though wash your hair, dry it and then wash it again because oil is difficult to remove from hair and if not done properly, hair will look greasy! |

I started oil pulling yesterday. Tastes rank (not keen on coconut!) but it seems to have good reviews.

Another use for it....have been trying it out as a deodorant. This warm humid weather has been a good test for it. I keep asking my OH to smell my arm pits and to date it seems to be working really well. I had a slight rash under my arm too and that has gone now.
I'll definitely try it - have to get my daughter to smell my armpits ![]() Quote:
My first daughter had horrid nappy rash and it only cleared after my Health Visitor suggested I try olive oil.
I'm guessing coconut oil would be equally effective. This article about oil pulling is really good as it gives a lot of information about bacterial infection, it's worth reading the whole article: http://www.dentistryiq.com/articles/...-patients.html It's worth keeping an eye out for Holland & Barrett, penny sales, it makes it worthwhile then to buy "Holland & Barrett Perfectly Pure Coconut Oil. Made from coconuts to produce 100% natural raw virgin oil." I've just looked at their website and it's currently included in the penny sale, so for £15.50 you get 2 x 453g. http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/sho...t-oil-60022864 |

if anybody has any Half Price till receipts from Holland and Barrett they're worth using. Yesterday I bought Tiana organic coconut oil in a big jar. Should be £16 something and only paid half that. They were giving these half price receipts out in recent weeks but we're only valid from yesterday.
If you haven't Holland and Barrett also have everything in store at the moment on buy one, get one half price. This is the second jar of Tiana C. Oil I've bought. What I do, I save little jars which individual jams come in, sterilise and fill with coconut oil to leave in bathroom for cleaning teeth. I love the stuff! |

Oh no you shouldn't. When I read about oil pulling it said it gets more of the bacteria out of your mouth, it's supposed to cling to the oil, so you don't want to swallow it..

I make my own moisturiser and include coconut oil but don't use it alone on my face. I tried it but like you came out in spots it took a couple of weeks to clear up. I find it ok added to butters like shea butter or almond butter to make moisturiser.

How do you actually melt the coconut oil? I bought some expecting it to be an oil but it was really hard. I managed to rub a bit in my palms and it melted a bit but can you just melt it in a pot?

If you want just a small amount to melt just rub in your palm. If you want more then scoop out what you need and pop in microwave for couple seconds. |

Im only two days in but i swear i can see a small difference already. Only problem im having is not swallowing! Im yet to manage the full 20 minutes because for me swallowing isnt something i can control. After about ten minutes its all i can think of! I have to tip my head forward and do mini swallows trying to make sure i dont swallow any oil! |

I mix a bit with manuka honey for the dog's bronchitis, cook with it (beware low fry point), use it as moisturiser and occasional underarm deodorant. It can also be useful for women of a certain age.....

It solidifies in the jar when it's at a low temperature. If you leave a jar on the side in the summer it turns to liquid. Why do you want it to melt by the way?
If you want just a small amount to melt just rub in your palm. If you want more then scoop out what you need and pop in microwave for couple seconds. I melted it and left it in my hair overnight, I found my hair really hard the next day. I wonder if it's me not rinsing it properly or should I actually be washing it out with shampoo? I'm such a rubbish giirl, I can't do beauty.

If I use coconut oil in my hair I put it on my ends for nourishment. I don't wash it out at all. Next morning my ends are beautifully hydrated. For me washing out the oil is just wasting product. I appreciate this may not work for those with oily hair.
Everyone's hair is different. |

Everyone's hair is different. I thrown out everything I used to use on my hair. Deep conditioners, styling creams, styling sprays, everything. My hair has never been so brilliantly conditioned and well managed on coconut oil. |

Unfortunately my hair becomes really greasy when I use coconut oil! I am going to stick to my Pro Naturals argan oil as my leave in treatment which works great for my hair.

I bought one of those big jars from Aldi and it hasn't made any difference at all to my hair. Mind you, I haven't opened it yet.

Why do they call it oil 'pulling' when there's no pulling involved? Surely it would be more accurate to call it oil swilling.
