No self preservation reaction to smoke alarms?
By the time the smoke alarms went off, there was quite a bit of smoke in the flat, but not that much. As soon as Carla was woken by the sound of the smoke alarms she should have leapt to her feet, rushed into her bedroom where Amy was asleep and got both of them the hell out of the flat.
Fire scenes in soaps are supposed to be dramatic and frequently serve as a vehicle to out a character or two, but please producers, let's make them a bit more realistic and believable! And as for the fire service response vehicle being delayed on the ring road .... Hello! Blues and twos anyone? The forensic chaps will determine the seat of the fire was the candle placed near the lampshade (a no brainer with today's technologies), but will any of it be able to be laid at Tracy's door? Probably not, because as far as I can tell, she's not about to be a 'leaving' character .. more's the pity. How such a nasty, manipulative, vitriolic person can still be of interest to the viewers I cannot imagine (and that's me sitting on the fence .. don't get me really started!) |

I don't know unless you have experienced it I don't think people appreciate how quickly smoke can overcome you. My OH was only in it for couple minutes and not even in the same place as fire was and it incapacitated him so quickly he was on oxygen in back of ambulance for a while after. He said he couldn't believe e how fast his lungs seemed to give up and he became dizzy etc so Carla waking up disorientated after breathing it in whilst asleep to me is very true to what would be happening . However leanne, kal and Amy should all be on the floor unconscious by now so that really is taking artistic licence

She was probably hammered, she had been drinking at a reception all day.

In her defence, it is still a bit nippy outside during the evenings in May, no wonder Carla Barla or Amy didn't wanna go outside, especially without a coat.

I was wondering about the people in the other flats, they only seemed to start leaving when Kev and others tried to go in. Surely they would have heard the alarm and left sooner? I dont think much of Carla's smoke alarm anyway it should have gone off sooner.

Haha but Carla DID leap up as soon as she woke up and she made her way to Amy while trying to call her but that's as far as she got because the smoke overpowered her. I thought they made it pretty clear that she was inhaling it while she was sleeping. The chemicals numb your senses and could very easily result in a deeper sleep rather than waking up.
I can't remember when the alarm went off but it wasn't a case of her waking up just before the smoke did any damage. By the time Carla woke up, the room was full of smoke and she couldn't breathe. I'm still wondering what the glove falling at the end of the trailer is all about? I wonder if someone else started the fire |

The laws of science are different in Soapland. In a fire, there is no danger of smoke inhalation. You can faff about for ages inside a burning building; the danger comes not from smoke but from the building itself collapsing. If you're a goodie, you get out alive (after several minutes faffing about inside) and recover from smoke inhalation within half a day; if you're a baddie you get killed.
