Except he couldn't handle it properly, and in those circumstances he had 2 choice, 1) to leave the House for good, 2) go to BB and tell them how he felt.
There are many situations in life when standing up for oneself doesn't get anywhere, so one has to tell someone else for any changes to be made.
As for his House standing, he should have more courage, and if the others mock him then that's their problem. It's up to the viewers to decide and not the HMs. If Joel feels isolated then that's his fault, as he didn't try hard enough to integrate. A real friend wouldn't have behaved like Aaron did, so being friends with Aaron wasn't a good idea. A 3rd possibility could be that Joel doesn't like joking around.
