James Bay has been the clear standout for me so far this year. His album is absolutely fantastic, my favourite album for a long time. Songs like "Scars", "Move Together" and "Need The Sun To Break" in particular stand out.

Also enjoyed Imagine Dragons' new album. Prefer it to "Night Visions".

To some extent or another, I've liked each UK #1 single so far this year which is a world away from the disaster that was Jan-May 2014 in comparison.

I'd rank the UK #1 singles to date as follows:

1. Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! (ok, it was released in December but still)
2. Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do
3. Jess Glynne - Hold My Hand
4. Years & Years - King
5. Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth - See You Again
6. OMI - Cheerleader
7. Sam Smith feat. John Legend - Lay Me Down

Only OMI and Sam Smith I'm not really fussed over.

I don't buy singles just albums so here are my favorite albums this year so far.

Madonna, Rebel Heart
Brandon Flowers, The Desired Effect
Courtney Barnett, Sometimes I Sit and Think....
Du Blonde, Welcome Back to Milk
Sleater Kinney, No Cities to Love
Chastity Belt, Time to Go Home
Bjork, Vulnicara
Speedy Ortiz, Foil Deer
Waxahatachee, Ivy Tripp
Best Coast, California Nights

I haven't heard it yet but I feel as though the new Florence and the Machine album is going to be one of the best albums of the year.

I loved Overpowered by Roisin Murphy but I couldn't get into Hairless Toys. It was a little too avant garde for my taste. I wanted songs with actual hooks and I didn't really hear any.

To me, the new song from country singer Kip Moore is one of his best named "I'm To Blame".

God bless you and him always!!!

Albums:

"Pageant Material" - Kacey Musgraves

I was eagerly awaiting the release of this album. I'm a big fan of Kacey's music, though I bought "Same Trailer Different Park" later than it's March 2013 release. This second album really doesn't disappoint. If anything, I think that it's better than "Same Trailer...". I saw her live last year on her tour and I am seriously considering buying tickets for the tour to support this album.

"Venus" - Joy Williams

Once one-half of the Civil Wars, Joy Williams releases her solo album. This is not her first solo album, of course though it is her most anticipated. She has not disappointed. This album is fantastic, in my opinion. I was unable to see her on her most recent UK tour to support the album before it's release. Thoroughly regretting not getting tickets now, especially since seeing some of the footage on YouTube from the London show. She is truly fantastic. I'd love to see her live at some point. It's one of my biggest musical regrets that I didn't get tickets to see The Civil Wars when they were together.
