I visit Twickenham quite alot and I was in the TW1 postcode.

This area has been rock solid for service and speed, 2-3 bars 4G and a drop back to 3G in some bars and restaurants.

I arrived and get "No Service" popping up on my iPhone 6 Plus, after some walking around I managed to get one bar of 3G and get a connection, according to Three on Twitter, it was a congestion issue, surely if it's 4G'd, they've got the capacity and backhaul to deal with this problem.

Can congestion really knock out the service that badly than I can't get a signal?

On another note, they've just rolled out 4G in Uxbridge and I nearly fell over when Speedtest nearly touched 58MB/s.

The plan (as we were told) is a September launch for ALL. The testing is going on now and shortly there will be friendly trials, using members of the public who will need to get their account set up to allow access.

Considering that for VoLTE you'll either need an iPhone with the relevant carrier update, or another phone with the right firmware, it's not actually going to be that easy to just launch it and let everyone use it though. And when you then think of all those people who bought an Honor 6 Plus and will discover they can't use 800MHz at all, I think there could be some fun and games ahead.

I think it's fair to say that a lot of London now has 800MHz ready to go, but I don't know how far it will spread outside of London and other cities, or indeed how many cities will have it from day one.

Given the slow down of 1800MHz activations this year, I have to assume Three has been doing a LOT of 800 rollout - or else what HAS it been doing?
Blimy I did not realise the Honor 6 Plus did not support 800mhz.

Luckily I went for the Honor 4X for my wife and I guess that supports 800mhz as she uses it on Tesco 4G (O2), but I'm guessing there would not be a Three update for that to support VOIP as it was bought SIM free and I don't believe they sell it in their shops?

If I recall there's 2 masts listed for upgrade by three/EE in the town where I work, Telford, both presently have EE 4g on them, new or additional cabinets all round, 1 shows 800mhz Three 4g the other does not, only 1800mhz so not sure why they need to replace both masts, in fact the one which only shows plans for 1800mhz three 4g had the top section of the mast changed last year when EE added there 4g.
I'm working in Telford too, Three 4G is fairly decent now in the Town Centre itself. Got a link for those planning apps?

It appears that 3 and EE have had 4G@800 in guildford for some time. I was just looking at a planning report for a Cornerstone upgrade, where they did an EMF report at some addresses, and 3 and EE clearly had 4G@800 on the study...

Looking at Three's coverage map I have seen that Sandgate (a very small but very rich sub-town of Folkestone, Kent) has now got 4G now whilst the main town of Folkestone is still not on any lists. - Seems money talks!

A vary large part of the signal is wasted as it spreads out into the English channel. - So this afternoon I walked to the seafront in Folkestone and got myself as far out into the channel as you can go without a boat, along a walk-way and within line-of -sight of Sandgate, just along the coast. Success! I got a 1 bar 4G signal!

And it can't be 800mhz as my phone can't get that! (But I bet just to annoy me further, Folkestone main town centre will be on 800mhz when/if they ever get around to providing it for the great unwashed of Folkestone.)

How much to text? I have texted there, but wasn't charged, but they also didn't get the message.

Ok thanks for that. I did look it up before, but it was confusing. I knew someone here would be able to answer

Yeah you're right, tricky Three pricing.

Sweden not included in the cheaper calls three digit code list either, expensive.

I have some earth shattering news.

I'm getting 4G on 3 in deepest mid Cornwall, near St. Austell. Certainly an interesting place to start a rollout, its a small village that was never on the list.

I thought for a second that I was actually on EE, but nope, 3.

No coverage in St. Austell (Cornwall's largest town) yet, it seems, but maybe 3 are on track to salvage their crappy 4G promises yet

They do seem to have come out there coma just lately and started doing something. A few masts have gone live that I've noticed weren't a few weeks ago, with more planned work soon, not working at a blistering place by any means but at least something is happening now.

Perhaps a lot of the 800 upgrade work has now been completed and they're going back to doing 1800?

Or their engineer is back from holiday/long term sick and has a lot of catching up to do...

One engineer would explain the slowness of the rollout!

I have an image in my head now that there are convoys of EE & Vodafone vans packed with engineers and equipment travelling from mast to mast, then months later a battered slightly rusty old transit van with #make it right handwritten on the side pulls up, out gets the grumpy chain smoking three engineer scratching his arse, dumps the cabinet out the back door and says "I'll come back next month and wire that up.. Got a house clearance to do this afternoon"
Meanwhile the O2 engineer is still trying to buy his old van from eBay but keeps getting outbid at the last minute as it won't refresh quick enough on 2G.

Well that's exactly like Sandgate, Kent - Now I'm not slagging it off, but it makes no sense rolling out two 2100mhz 4G masts (I checked) down there in the back of nowhere, before having it in the main town of Folkestone.

Probably on a part time zero hour contract.

Yes, I think with Three's 4G roll-out, a certain sense of humour is required.

And when the 'Install Team' (That's the original arse-scratcher and his two best mates), return to the cabinet, it's lots of standing around chin scratching, sucking in air and shaking their heads before deciding that they just don't have the right spanner and besides, it's time for their 4 hour breakfast break.

Am I right in saying that EE have until 30 Sept 2015 to hand over the additional 5Mhz of 1800 Three?

Do you think it is simply a case of a reprogram of all the cell sites remotely to use the additional 5Mhz or something a bit more substantial?

Three already have the spectrum, they just can't use it yet.
