If that's an LG G4 use the built-in field tester to see the frequency in use.
Thanks. Seems to be an enabled area but will only connect to 800 when i force it to. 800 signal is very strong too.

It won't connect unless you have no 3G or 1800MHz 4G signal at all.

Makes sense i guess ( i don't really think that ). But i want 4G all the time, 800 seems to travel stupidly far.

Here is how far i got before i lost my USABLE 800 signal, with the point of the mast in Llandudno and my on the bus home.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?m...Yo&usp=sharing

Here is the field test data just before i lost my usable 800 signal at the point further in-land: http://s1.postimg.org/cu1obcgjz/Scre...8_18_15_47.png

It is definitely coming from the same mast as this is what it looked like in town: http://s23.postimg.org/65rz09ror/Scr...8_17_38_31.png

Having a bit of nerd-gasm.

Would have been interesting to see the ASU so far from the mast.

But I agree, the signal from tall masts travels very far indeed. I assume the mast you found was a tall one?

It's on top on this theater in Llandudno: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.32...7i13312!8i6656

That street view is outdated as there has since been a set of new antennas put right up top, the poles on the corners of the building have been removed.

Sorry but what is ASU?

Sorry but what is ASU?
Arbitrary Strength Unit (ASU) is an integer value proportional to the received signal strength measured by the mobile phone.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone_signal#ASU

The higher the ASU the better the quality of the signal, from what I understand. The ASU on 4G will be higher at lower dbm than 3G and 2G, hence why 4G works at -120dBm and lower and 800MHz 4G at -125dBm (I think that's where the scale stops, the signal may well be lower than that). 3G would cease to work at such signal levels. In short, 4G is better at lower signal levels than 2G and 3G.

Anything above 10 should be usable.

Anyone here able to see info about network improvements?
Over last few months there seem to have been a lot of planned improvements according to Coverage checker!

Thanks

UK networks rarely go over about 30 metres but there are exceptions.
Here is the North Hessary Tor TV transmitter at Princetown (yes, famous for the prison).
http://www.thebigtower.com/live/NHT/Index.htm
Height of cells are (or were, so make up your own mind who is at what height)...

Orange - 40 metres
O2 - 22 metres
Vodafone - 60 metres
Three - 30 metres
T-Mobile - 38 metres.

Or even the Marldon (Beacon Hill) transmitting station for most of the South Hams ( I get my TV form this one)...
http://www.thebigtower.com/live/Beacon/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beacon...itting_station

Orange - 57 metres
O2 - 54 metres
Vodafone - 63 metres
Three - 25 metres
T-Mobile - 73 metres

God knows which arrays they have kept and which ones have been decommissioned.
This info from Sitefinder and so completely out of date........
The highest antenna installation I know of is a T-Mobile 2G-only mast at 76 meters on top of the Harworth headgear for the pit shaft.

It's quite a view from the top.... http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/harwort...an-2015.t94022

Shame they won't be upgrading the site as the headgear is overdue for demolition,

My post wasn't intended to come off as snarky. The elipses were unnecessary and I apologise for any unintentional insult inflicted as a result of that.

I would be curious to know what the ASU is just before the 800MHz signal "dies".

(Some of these are probably out of data from Sitefinder)

Holme Moss TV:
O2 87.5 Metres
T-Mobile 80 Metres
Vodaphone 60 Metres
(Also Airwave at 142.3 Metres which could be one of the highest?)

Belmont TV:
O2 95.5 Metres
Orange 90 Metres
Vodaphone 82 Metres

Sorry, but as this is a mobile board, one of the places you'd expect to see it correct- Vodafone

Yeah, don't see why anyone would mistake them for a phone network. Signal, what signal?

Don't see the point. 3G can't cover a large urban area. 40Mbps per sector. You need more lower ones.
No wonder everyone is complaining about their speeds..
EDIT: Might be useful for 800 though as long as there's a good dense 2100/1800 network underlying it.
So I'll let them off...

To be fair, I've done that a few times even though I am aware of the correct spelling.

That's insanely tall. I suspect you're right that's the tallest. Looks like some I've seen in the USA. The Arqiva Tower at Emley Moor is pretty insanely tall (330m), but I don't think they have any cellular antennas near the top - maybe halfway up.

Great find! Looks like it's an Arquiva site:
