What I wanted to find out was which mast in Sandgate, Kent is beaming out the new 4G signal and on what frequency.
All I can find on the Ofcom mast map for 3 are all at 2100MHz, so it can't be one of those. It was suggested up the page that 3 do their main 4G on 1800MHz but on the map in that area, the only masts using 1800MHz are listed as Orange. . |

May even be longer...
Ofcom themselves state: Quote:
The last update in May 2012 (as reflected in this spreadsheet) is based on the following datasets received by Ofcom:
O2 (May 2012) Network Rail (April 2012) Hutchison (February 2012) Vodafone (October 2011) Airwave (February 2010) Orange (February 2010) T-Mobile (August 2005) |

Best option is to use a third party app. O2 shows their mast locations on their own coverage map, with EE and BT's maps you can guess where the 4G masts are based on the pattern. EE: http://coverage.ee.co.uk/ee/coveragechecker.html BT: https://coverage.ee.co.uk/bt/coveragechecker.html O2: http://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker Voda: https://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/n...-map/index.htm Three: http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Network/Coverage |

No. The networks argued that this is commercially sensitive information - as they compete on coverage.

Thanks! On this LTE Discovery App, it shows a direction arrow of the mast - Could I not spend a day in the 4G area sort of triangulating the mast? No real reason to do this apart from the fact it's bugging me as to where it is.

I use Cellmapper, pretty good Android app that will triangulate masts based on the data it's getting from your phone and your location. The more you move about with it, the more accurate it will be. I've found many masts using it and plotted the majority of my towns 4G sites, take a look:
http://www.cellmapper.net/map?MCC=23...901073&zoom=13 If you click a site, I even added pictures ![]() I've mapped EE mostly, but got some Three on there too, same sites anyway as all of Three's 4G sites around here are MBNL but EE has much more 4G sites that are not shared in MBNL here. Anyone got any idea if the Nexus 6 (Supports band 20 & VoLTE) would work with Three 800MHz/VoLTE seen as they don't actually sell the device...? |

Thanks for the app by the way, I was looking for something to do that as I'm tracking masts in Manchester, that should be perfect. |

It won't work yet, not unless Three have worked with Google, the American nexus 6 only works with Verizon/T-Mobile.

I don't understand why the process with VoLTE is such a pain. Surely if the device supports it and the network supports it, just like any other network type feature, the device and the network should talk to each other to understand what they are each capable of and then if they both support the same features they should work. I just want to be able to use 800MHz on Three with my Nexus 6.

Hopefully Google will change android so any phone with the correct baseband can download the IMS settings like how APNs are done now days, at the moment every ROM has to have the settings built in like a preinstalled app sort of.And yes as boring as it seems to some it can be quite satisfying finding masts, although the same Elara CTIL monopoles and the new type MBNL monopoles can get repetitive but it is nice to see the small street Three 4G cabinets popping up here and there. I've tracked 50 masts MBNL and CTIL so far and that is more or less just south Manchester, I'm planning on doing west and central soon. |

Going by the big coverage area, I'd say it's probably the water tower on Shorncliffe Camp.
A lot wasted going out to sea but there is not a lot they can do about that. Nice for sitting out on your fishing boat with a good strong 4G signal.

Anyone any news on the Hull area for the 4G roll-out cityfibre just finished doing work in my area and i'm detecting a '3 UK (4G)' network that shows as 'available' but it's not allowing anyone to connect to it.

Sounds like you have the news there, 4G launch can't be too far away if they are already broadcasting.

I did speak to Three earlier regarding the situation they said anywhere from now "they're running tests on it" (333) call centres exact words. It'll be fantastic with that new fibre!

Well three appear to be doing extra work around Shropshire, in Telford they enabled the health hill transmitter near Dawley for 4G, and friends I have told me they're observing 4G in the Shelton area of Shrewsbury.

Just of add for anyone who lives and works in Telford, 2 more upgrades scheduled in for the town,
St quentin gate, the mast near the international centre is scheduled for a big upgrade today 27th-29th July, cabinets installed and pole change, I'm fairly sure EE are already 4G'd on this mast so must be for three maybe adding 800mhz as well as 1800mhz for indoor coverage at the international centre help with the town centre.. 8th August, This mast on Whitchurch Drive by the travel lodge in shawburch, https://www.dropbox.com/s/ibqninewfs...81200.jpg?dl=0 Cabinet upgrades, EE already have 4G here so must be three, plus there is a planning application taped to the mast from Hutchison, I'm sure I read somewhere previously about a mast and microwave swap too and 800mhz drawings on the site map, as it's at the very edge of town alot of its signal goes out into the countryside already so would be good for 800mhz. Lots of work in Shropshire and Cheshire at the moment from three and Vodafone too. Are they doing as much work under the radar elsewhere in the country? |

I can actually say yes to this one. They're doing more this year than they did last year.
