In work it's made things much worse, used to get 3G all the time. Now it's swapping between no signal, 4G then 3G. Just taken mobile out of pocket and it's got no signal
That is exactly what happens on EE in a borderline 3G area. It hops between unusable 3G, 2G or nothing. Three could totally transform the network by having working SRVCC AND reverse SRVCC with a decent threshold. This would result in calls handing over smoothly in both directions. Also as japaul says they could set an idle threshold too. He's probably right when he says that they aren't doing that as it would result in too many devices on 800 and they don't want that as they have no capacity. |

800MHz 4G not only travels further, it has the advantage of working at much lower signal levels, as 4G works at much lower signal than 3G.
It should (I hope), provide some really excellent coverage when more masts are actually using it. The priority thing isn't actually a problem in itself. It's only a problem because they haven't combined it with full hand over. |

Im not up to speed on all things technical but wondered if it is possible Three are phasing in VoLTE on iPhones either by allowing only certain versions or certain masts over a few days?
For example, I'm in a super voice area classed as excellent, its shown this for some time for Samsung Galaxy s5 phones I think it was. Im running an iPhone 6 with latest OS and carrier yet go from 1 bar 3g to no service. Zero sign of it picking up 4g. Three said it should get better over the next few days and mentioned the 11th even though no work is planned on the 11th. |

agreed DevonBloke
just sat using my phone on the forum and it's changed from 4G to no signal and then to 3G. Will changing the option to 4G data only make any difference? Will try it and see |

So basically they don't want everyone on 800 as it can't handle that. It would seem that it was brought and rushed through just to make big advertising claims that next to no one can use.
But they knew all this when they brought so little in the first place. So why launch a service that you know won't work and isn't fit for purpose? |

But they knew all this when they brought so little in the first place. So why launch a service that you know won't work and isn't fit for purpose? Ideally what they need to do is the same as EE. Get a national 4G1800 network out there (every mast) and have 800 at a higher priority than 3G. The underlying 1800 would ease the pressure on 800 considerably. They are trying to get to that 90% quickly with a sparse 800 rollout that looks great on the map. This requires that few users can be on it or it would get swamped. It was indeed rushed out to beat EE. I don't think EE care. |

If it's staying on no service for considerable periods of time then there is no 800 there.

I'm going to annoy a lot of people here, but an LTE connection isn't required in order to use the web. Three's implementation is perfectly reasonable by giving people that wouldn't have a signal otherwise be able to make a call.
DC-HSDPA is perfectly capable of being able to use the web. Also there is no such thing as high/maximum power. There is maximum legal limit as I understand and most carriers tend to be under that. If it was at the maximum legal limit, there would be lots of destructive interference of waves and you'll have no signal in those areas. MBNL 3G tends to have the lowest transmission powers of them all. EE's transmission power is too high and causes other problems as well such as hanging on a mast when there is another one that is closer. Anyway my concluding point is that being on LTE all the time doesn't mean you have a faster internet experience and Three knows that, especially when you only have 2 X 5MHz. They also can't just buy more lower frequency spectrum. So if you're disappointed, then you don't understand what the aim of VoLTE at 800MHz was which was to improve the coverage for people that struggled for indoor coverage. |

I have a Samsung S6 and I don't think mine has ever made a call on VoLTE and was expecting to be able to get a signal in my underground gym where I currently get no service!
Doing a network scan shows both o2 and Voda have 2G and 4G coverage and my phone shows nearly full signal for "emergency calls only" I am really disappointed, I thought 800Mhz would of sorted this out ![]() My gym is on Corporation St slap bang in the centre of Birmingham, 800Mhz must be switched on surely? |

No argument that it was intended for indoor use. Just saying the priority thing means very few can benefit from it. Oh and when I say full power, I just mean they are running it at what you would normally expect for maximum coverage as opposed to the current Three and EE 4G1800 which is restricted quite a lot to keep it inside 3G coverage. Only 4G voice phones can use it so it doesn't need to be restricted. |

Even EE are only going to be 800 enabling about 4000 out of their 18,000 sites. Just because there's a Three mast, doesn't mean it will have 800. Many of the smaller ones won't. |

You're all loosing me a bit now and getting technical.
Three have promised me a better reception is launching to get to them places your friends get signal on other networks but because you're searching around for Wi-Fi just to send a message! They have text me and sent an update to my phone, yet its made no difference! I still loose signal in buildings and my mates on Vodafone are laughing! Are Three telling fibs again and messed up the launch like they did when they first launched 4G? |

In theory, from a given mast that has both Vodafone 800 and Three 800, if you were somewhere distant that gave you no 3G at all then your 800 should be stronger than Vodafone's.. But now that's getting technical again..... |

They can promise all they want but with the way they have set it up (without getting technical : ) your Vodafone friends are likely to have 4G where you don't.

I mean its clearly needed when you walk in any slightly old building and loose signal, surely my phone should be now latching on to a 800Mhz signal Instead i'm stuck with "Emergency calls only" showing me a great reception I could get with a different network. Dare I say it, I think I am going have to move over to Voda! |

So it looks like the centre of Birmingham (New Street) doesn't have 800Mhz, how can they say they've launched it in Birmingham

No idea what's going on there. I assume you pick up normal 4G1800 when out in the street?? |

Ah, just realised, have you got the latest Three firmware update here http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Devic...nt_mode=update
More specifically here http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-...se=EXT(EM56928) Also is your S6 supplied by Three or did you buy it separately? |

Looking at the map (assuming this postcode I found for a local shop is the right area, B5 4BU) it appears to be totally covered with 800.

Full 4G on the street, Soon as I walk down the stairs its down to 1 bar of 3g. once you enter the gym that it gone, my phone gets hot and drains the battery looking for a signal (I have started placing it in airplane mode) The odd time I may pick up 1 bar of 3G but we are talking waving about in the air for 5mins send 1 what's app message type! Last night though my friend is right deep back into the gym streaming spotify on voda's 4G SO FUSTRATING! according to 3 I should be fully covered now! Could there potentially something wrong with my sim? |

Oh and its directly from 3
You need the latest Three branded version of Android too. You would notice this as it would take a while and be doing reboots and stuff. Not sure if the fact you have VoLTE showing is good enough. Don't think it is since that's probably there on all of them. Put your phone in here and then go to software update http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Devic...=1183&aidset=1 |

I have sent a tweet to three about it but I doubt that will get me anywhere.. we will see! I am thinking maybe its not been enabled on my account/sim by mistake |
