Why not build into the next O/S (whichever) a display at the top that shows:
"Data Only" - "Data + Calls" - "Calls Only" That way it can connect to whatever it likes and cover themselves over the Emergency Calls situation for the uninformed general public. If it says "Calls" then you can contact the Emergency Services; if it says "Data Only" then you know you can't. Better still, just get Volte working on all 4G frequencies. |

You're right there's lots there, I'm going to have a snoop round as well.
<string name="preference_general_lte_enable">Use over 4G</string> <string name="preference_general_lte_enable_summary">Increase coverage with Calls and Texts over 4G</string> <string name="preference_general_lte_activate_progress">Activating LTE</string> <string name="preference_general_lte_deactivate_progress">Dectivating LTE</string> Interesting here though. |

Regarding the matter of 3 4G alongside EE, I didn't imagine 3 would install 4G on a mast that EE haven't touched, but it seems they do?
Round here, EE have 4G'd most masts, but there's a huge one that's just 3G. But 3 have 4G800 and 4G1800 on it. Didn't think they'd bother, I literally thought they stole some backhaul from EE for their 4G. There you go. Theres a phone mast thats only EE 2G/HSPA+ but Three has both 3G 2100MHz and 4G 1800MHz but.. saying that was an original Three mast so maybe yours is the same? Quote:
I have been discussing with 3 on Twitter today about my local 3G mast. It has full signal, the H+ logo and arrows going up and down occasionally, but no data. I sent them a screenshot of me attempting a Speedtest and suffering from 'Network connection issues'.
I tried to tell them that their mast is faulty/over subscribed, as in other areas/towns, it works just fine, but their standard response was to reboot the phone and to fill in an online form, they can't see any problems blah, blah blah oh and also, i should get 4G because their coverage checker says so, according to them... so go on 3G still the same issue

Not sure what three have done but I've gone from no 3G to sometimes 1 bar of 4g 800 and now have 90% 2-3 bars of 4g 800 where I've normally got no signal so big plus here.

4G 1800 is completely dead in Llandudno, not even connecting when i force it now. Called to complain and they said they are aware of it and got told it wasn't due to be fixed until 30th December! Clearly not very important to them!!
3G speeds also seem to have taken a tumble too: http://gifyu.com/images/Screenshot_2...7-16-45-26.png |

Not getting much of a sensible response from
Exec office: XXXX currently shows as having weak 4G coverage and there’s limited indoor coverage. If you have your phone solely on 3G, you’ll have a much better customer experience. Although we do offer 4G free of charge, I’m afraid there will be areas where the signal won’t be as strong as we’d like. We’ve been rolling out our 4G Super-Voice since September 2015 and have approximately 65% of UK population coverage. We’re continuing this throughout 2016 and hopefully by the end of next year, we’ll achieve around 95% of the UK population coverage. |

Covered by a signal you can't use!
As I've said, it's all about advertising and putting out coverage claims that make them sound great that last until you try to use it. |

Three seem to be shrinking their 4G Voice area, at least in my experience. I was using it in a building most of last month, nice clear voice from 2 bars of 800Mhz, I noticed it wasn't working last week when I was there, tried it again today and still nothing. I have 2-3 bars 1800Mhz outside and once going into the building it drops to no signal now, nothing, no 3G or 4G at all. I presume the problems Three have been having might have caused a rethink and a minimisation of 800Mhz, the area still claims to be "superpumped". Quote:
Excellent. I don't think so...
You can make calls, send texts and use the internet in most instances on our 4G Super-Voice network. You should also get super-fast call set-up times and crystal clear HD-calling. Just so you know, indoor signal strength may vary. |

Could be cell breathing as usage slowly increases, could be wrong though.

Tis a fact.
2G and 4G are fixed coverage (where you are on the edge of coverage today it will be the same as tomorrow regardless of loading). 3G electronically breaths. If the cell is loaded then it dumps devices on it's outer edges either to another 3G cell, down to 2G if available or to nothing at all. |

Didn't realise that 2G and 4G didn't use cell breathing. You learn something new every day.
![]() Any news on VoLTE for 1800? I'm assuming nowhere near being that it's Three.

I think it's more accurate to say that with 4G cell breathing is greatly reduced when compared with 3G but it isn't absent altogether like it is with 2G.
I understand why you all say there is no cell breathing with 4G because that's what the books say but it isn't the whole story! |

I should imagine that they won't deploy it on 1800 because of the dropped call rate issues, at least not until later smooth handovers can be implemented and as the revisions of the technology evolves.. |

Not quite sure why you're saying being as it's Three, when they were the first to launch VoLTE, albeit in a limited fashion.

Has Three changed things?
800 no longer appears for my area if I put S5 or iPhone 6 in. It says they are compatible with VoLTE which is coming soon. Someone did say earlier that their phone was now staying on 800. |

The only real difference is that it now says "we've super pumped the signal in your area". Gee-whiz. Now why don't you expand the 1800 that you have in the next village over so I can actually use 4G? (and let me use my 800 capable "mifi" like your coverage checker says I should be able to)

Just had my first bit of 800 in Merseyside. Doctors surgery where I usually get no signal as its a new building and probably has all sorts of crazy insulation and metal structure as part of it. The signal went from 3G outside, to no signal when I went in, to 4G 800Mhz after 20 seconds or so of no signal. iPhone 6
It was perfectly useable |

The issue being that because it's constantly disappearing and reappearing, it's impossible to access 4G800 even though it's there. |

I recently updated the OS on my phone and in doing so I had to manually flash a new radio firmware.
After rebooting I got a text from 3 telling me that they "can't send you picture/messaging settings automatically", as if I'd put the SIM into a new phone. I'd thought the IMEI had changed but it's the same one - though the "IMEI SV" is different, I think it's now 1 digit higher. Is this how 3 works out what phones have had the software upgrade for VoLTE? (I don't think mine is ever going to be one) |
