Thanks for the reply. My handset is SIM free which is presumably why then.

According to their website there is work taking place tomorrow in my area also.

Same here. Well over 10 days of "maintenance" and "network improvement days"since September of last year. Still no 4G.....let's see what tomorrow brings.

Are my eyes deceiving me or have three actually turned on a new 4g 1800mhz mast near me in Nantwich.. Surprised they didn't get the mayor out to cut the ribbon for this special occasion.
Curiosity is also getting the better of me so might have to get a LG g4c with three software in and test this 800mhz 4g see how accurate the coverage maps are.

Well the day came and went and nowt. Three's coverage map for my town continues to be a work of fiction with 4G (1800) so I called to tell them that and (obviously the entire company is quaking)!

Does the LG g4c support VoLTE (and therefore 800)?

The last time I checked the Three website, supported VoLTE phones were
LG G4(c)
Samsung S6(edge)
Sony Z5(compact)
Apple 6(plus)
Apple 6S(plus)

Well, I got my letter today. I've got 30 days until Three moves me from the £15 One Plan to a new plan at £33 but with a £3 discount.

£15 more per month.. that's Three making it right isn't it!

I couldn't help but write a rant on my site over it... http://jmcomms.com/2016/01/26/i-had-...ite-like-this/

As I've said for some time, I think this is the final push I needed to say goodbye to Three. I'll no doubt keep some credit on prepay for roaming, even if Feel at Home is pretty poor these days (compared to full speed 4G on, say, Vodafone) and see how things pan out over the coming months.

Still waiting for my letter. I'll probably go on the absolute cheapest 30 day plan (I don't need unlimited data anymore, but wasn't going to switch until forced to) until I decide what to do.

Which will still either be EE or 3 because Vodafone and O2 have yet to remember the existance of the south west, going by those coverage maps

If I'm going to pay £20-25 a month I'll be moving to EE and enjoying a 4G network that actually exists

lots of reports of letters today, still nothing for me - off to enjoy EE's 4g when I get mine.

As we're all whinging, I didn't win any 'prezzies' in their Xmas offer. Not even a Jackson puppet.

My opinion of Jackson isn't very positive right now. Ever since he took charge, everything has started to suck.

If you did win a puppet, you'd have probably found him rummaging around in your cupboards when you slept and trying to empty your bank account....

Jon it was always a £25 plan with a £10 discount from the start. We always knew it was under priced for unlimited data and unlimited tethering. If you bought at just the right time you'd have been paying £15, some are paying more as the £10 discount offer wasn't on throughout the whole period in which you could buy the One Plan. So the £30 they are asking now is basically £5 more 4 years on to the original price of the plan pre-discount / offer.

So is 3 having less customers a bargaining ploy to get the O2 deal through faster?

As in; "We've done our best to increase coverage but BT is too big and spent so much money, we can't compete and we're losing customers, so we have to buy O2 to survive".

This is a cop-out though. It was really £15, it was sold as £15, not £25 crossed out and £15 next to it.

It might have been implemented as a discount to a £25 plan, but that was not how it was advertised and sold. There was no mention that it'd be temporary, either.

There is every reason to feel irritated by the move - even if 3 are legally (and probably morally) in the right to do it

"Even Three’s own usage guidelines stated 1000GB as fair usage (yes, 1TB) so perhaps it should have thought more carefully about what it was offering from the start?"

Yeah I remember that.
Were they barking or something?
I take it they did know the limitations of UMTS spectrum capacity?

It was sold with £25 price discounted to £15 wasn't it? The bill even had that on.

We knew it was an amazing deal. Even at £30 it's still amongst the best offers, nobody else does unlimited handset data, unlimited texts and loads of minutes and 12GB tethering and feel at home for £30.

To be fair the One Plan was a relatively old plan now too, they haven't been selling it for a while and I think I was on it 4+ years ago with no price change. So it's still a good deal even at £30.

The bill did/does, but not in the advertising

Yes, but this isn't 2012 any more. Why would I pay EE level prices to 3 when I might as well pay EE themselves? I can get 10GB and unlimited texts/minutes for £26, and get 4G coverage most of the time too

As has been said before, it's a bad time for 3 to start reducing value and increasing prices - they should have waited until their 4G network is less of a myth and they've overcome the 800Mhz issue

They did, but with 7M customers they could get away with it. However, that was in 2012/2113, now in 2016 mobile data usage has increased a lott and they have increased the number of subscribers in that time too by a couple of million.

I don't think they realised the extent to which it would be used by some users, we've seen people here reporting >1TB usage. In 2014 / 2015 it became apparent that it wasn't sustainable and we have known this plan was going to retired for 2 years.

It has only come back around and done the rounds again because a prominent blogger is being moved off (sorry Jon!), but it's true..

To be fair to me (!), I've written about this for some time and it HAD gone quiet for a bit. Seems they've started again and it's not just me getting letters today!

I've tried hard to keep Three in check for some time now. Despite it meaning I've now had all contact with Three cut off.

Totally agree with your post on your site. Let me keep my 2000 minutes and unlimited data but impose the 12GB tethering limit. I would be more than happy with that.

I don't need unlimited minutes and don't need a 100% price increase (I know it's £25 with a £10 discount but like has been said it wasn't sold that way)

I agree with Jon though in that they should have started increasing it gradually a while ago. Not just double it when they have no 4G in many places. Well not that you can use anyway.

Don't you think that they have to fade out all of the AYCE data plans all together. They have little spectrum to withstand the traffic in the future. If they had 125MHz of 2.6GHz like BT-EE, then they would be alright for quite a while.
Of course, if they do get rid of the AYCE data plans, there is nothing that would differentiate them from other carriers which is why I would be strongly against the Three-O2 deal. Most of my data on Three is speed tests anyway, then YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Vessel, Pocket Casts, Play Store and then Hotspot. Total Usage is about 45GB. I think I should reduce my Speed Test usage.
Thine Wonk
26-01-2016
If you're using 45GB and most of it is speed tests then yes, I don't see why a small number of people are fixated with speed. If you are you're definitely better off on EE as Three aren't planning to compete on speed, they'll offer slower speeds but hopefully continue unlimited handset data for the foreseeable future.

If you're using 45GB for £30 a month, that's a hell of a lot cheaper than EE, who would charge you £50 for that and then you'd have 50GB so you'd have to allowance watch and think "shall I watch that stuff on iPlayer, because if I do I'll have to watch my usage later in the month' etc...
DevonBloke
26-01-2016
God!!!! I thought I did too many speed tests. Clearly not.
I've just had a thought.... maybe they are having to do this because too many people are doing speed tests all day.
