They could reduce tethering. They could adjust the allowance. They could increase the line rental slightly. To just move you to the most expensive plan if you don't act quick is at best cheeky don't you think?

Especially as it's not the best deal if it turns out that having the right person on the line results in a further £5-£10 discount. In other words, everyone should ignore the 'best deal' wording of the letter because it's not true.

In fact, as I write this I have to wonder why they didn't increase the line rental once I was out of contract, or remove unlimited tethering. That could have been done back in 2014 for me.

This is nothing to do with the annual price rise that they put onto their plans. Have you read the posts in the thread that explain what's happening with the old price plans?

My thoughts exactly (even though I know it seems harsh).

What really annoys me is when companies put up the price slightly when you are in contract (like Virgin have done a couple of times 2 months into a new contract with them - I would not mind so much if you could say "I don't agree with the price rise and I'm going elsewhere").

I didn't agree with that either. Nor did Three. In fact it used social media very effectively to ridicule the competition about increasing charges within a contract.

And then what did that purple muppet go and do?

Again, it's legal. Doesn't mean people have to be happy.

At least here you can leave. I suppose you can argue that you can refuse to sign a contract with any operator doing it - but that somewhat limits your choices.

They are being discontinued?

What's so new about it? It happens in all the industries.

It's not happening mid-contract? It's not viable for the company to support that tariff in the long run.

I have 2 x £15 contracts and I will be pushed on soon..

Exactly, so what does that have to do with annual price rises or wages?

The only thing that concerns me here is that we have a legacy sim on Three from 2005, where we are paying £5 per month for unlimited everything and there are even picture messages and video minutes included (the original phone was a Nokia E71 ). Hopefully that won't be affected.

All legacy plans are going. You may be lower down the list though.

Maybe slightly moving this thread back on track. What has the Three 4G rollout been like recently? Has the three coverage map been updated recently?

I'm seeing it in a few more places than before.

Seems to be a new one added near Netley, Hampshire.

Haven't noticed anything else.

I haven't been able to see any new masts coming online round here recently because my Nexus 5 with my 3 SIM in went "missing" when I was in London last week.

Just got an iPhone 6, having had android for about 6 years. 800MHz worked really well in a house I normally get 1 bar 3G/No Service in. I got 1 bar 3G/1 bar 4G, only getting the 4G when 3G dropped out of course
Made a call and it worked well, but as soon as it found 3G again it went back up (but down really ) to that.

Jabba said it's pretty much been put on hold until the O2 deal has been decided. Locally to me, they brought on a new 3G mast but the coverage map indicates only outdoor.

Something weird happened in Central London, and I've never had to do this before.

I was out with a friend and for some reason the 4G was slow, after some investigation, I was on 4G 800 (in the middle of London) right next to the Thames.

It was so slow that I had to check three or four times that I wasn't seeing things but it was definitely 4G 800 and to get any service (speed test didn't even want to work) I had to "force" my phone back down to 3G which was faster, even after switching back to 4G, it went back to 4G 800....something must have been off that day.

Yeah, that's Three not having a fecking clue what they are doing......
Take your time EE. Take till 2017 for all I care.
I love how they weren't even slightly phased by Three doing 800 VoLTE really early.
They perhaps knew it wasn't happening?

Well if you've decided that's that then. Meanwhile in reality, as expected there will be much talking and bargaining.

btw How do you complain about OFCOM? They obviously haven't got a clue.

Pretty good chance it won't be happening, Devon's hat is safe .

Oh, and OFCOM have got it right on this, it's a bad deal for competition.

I don't think so, he better get a small hat.

You can leave without penalty, unless you were told about the price increase before you signed up.

I can't assure you, I can eat a really big hat and will be perfectly prepared to do so.
I was a farmer in a distant life. I went to Totnes Young Farmers club.
I can assure you in no uncertain terms, eating a really big hat is nothing compared to some of the crap I've done!!.

If the takeover doesn't happen Three is going to be kind of screwed as their 4G is really bad.

I'm rural and I can get 4G from everyone except Three... and it's like that in most villages around me - it only seems to be towns and cities where Three's 4G is actually, well, there.

Although one thing I did find interesting is that when I put a Three sim in my phone, and went into the only room it has hope of getting a 4G signal, I noticed it was 3/5 bars. So I walked out the room, it went to 2 bars for a second then switched to 3G... wtf? So it has decent 4G signal but Three won't let you on it unless you have 3 bars or more? Maybe this is because their 4G is often slower than their 3G, so they want to only have a few users on the 4G mast? It just seemed really weird to me as EE will usually hold on to even 1 bar of 4G.

Sharon White and Ofcom really have to be investigated about this. I suspect it's childish retaliation for threats of legal action from Telefónica UK and Hutchison, over the 4G spectrum auction last year.

You think it's just point-scoring? Really bad if that's the case.

You say that, but quarter on quarter they are continuing to put 4G in, they are just going to take longer to roll it out as they started late and with a smaller budget. However I don't think many consumers go mad for 4G, on these forums yes, but outside of them they get dc-hspa and a lot of customers would care as much as people who are really into 4G on these forums.

If the sale isn't approved Three will likely quit the UK anyway, and then it'll go to Virgin Media or somebody and that'll be it, game over. Telefonica also want to sell, so they may sell to somebody else separately as well.

However I think they'll negotiate a way forward through selling off certain aspects and through other compromises like wholesale access, MVNO creation etc.
